Can we have a list of screenshots of the day, with links to the posts, the screenshot featured and Sakurai's comment? SeanWheeler (talk) 16:20, 23 February 2014 (EST)

We should have a archive like we did for the Dojo. The question is though, who's gonna make it and get those months of posts up? Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 17:29, 23 February 2014 (EST)

Time for an absurdly basic layout design then.

February

  • Feb 21 [1]:Pic of the day. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is out now in Europe and North America! ...And to celebrate, Diddy Kong joins the battle!!
We've increased Diddy Kong's flexibility this time. This picture shows how far his punches stretch during his strong side attack.

We really need to settle on any layout that presents the info neatly before any work can be done. MegaTron1XDDecepticon.png 17:52, 23 February 2014 (EST)

Last night, I went a ahead and started, but didn't save. Here's what the format looked like but with the current screenshot.

I didn't get up to the current screenshot. I started from June. I didn't upload the missing screenshots, I just left the image blank when I couldn't find the screenshot here. How did I get the comments from June? Well, there is a fansite with all the pics of the day. But there is no link to Sakurai's original post. So when we find the link, we can check Sakurai's original post and correct what the fansite said. SeanWheeler (talk) 09:44, 24 February 2014 (EST)

  • Here is a site with all the pics (with dates and comments). 84.26.240.80 13:28, 24 February 2014 (EST)
It's better to have links than just a bunch of pics, especially when finding the images are the easiest thing to do as a lot of Google search results will show you. Anyway, I can get the proper links to his posts and his original comment if necessary as long as the design presented is agreed on to be ideal. That is a site that seems more credible than the miiverse fansite that I found, since the pic included Sakurai's comment instead of being just a caption. But as Tron suggested, we need the links. I wanted the links to help with references on another site. And it's so hard to find Sakurai's comment of each pics because, since I don't have a Wii U, Miiverse access is so limited. I can't sign up without a Wii U. If someone has a Wii U and has an easier time posting the links, be my guest. SeanWheeler (talk) 20:43, 24 February 2014 (EST)

As a 3DS owner, I can easily browse through Miiverse on my computer and get links to individual posts as necessary, and I assume there are others who could do the same. We still need to decide on a consistent format first, though. Miles (talk) 20:47, 24 February 2014 (EST)

I like the table format, though the sortableness is unnecessary (there's no reasonable sort outside chronological, which would be default), and it might be tricky to add supplementary posts (such as the Mario Galaxy reveal, which had two posts and two pictures). Maybe we could also have a yes/no column or two that denotes "was something new revealed here". I'm going to see if I can put together a template to make things easier. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Wacko 22:10, 24 February 2014 (EST)

Okay I have the template done up with a demo here. I'm thinking we can do something like bold or colour date cells where something new is revealed. Maybe even have a different colour for different types of reveals, but that's probably a bit much. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Multifaceted 22:59, 24 February 2014 (EST)
Looks solid to me. I think color-coding might be excessive, but bold for new characters or other major announcements might be appropriate. Miles (talk) 23:14, 24 February 2014 (EST)
I sure hope you can get all the way back to June. I'll be watching you're Miiverse list. SeanWheeler (talk) 09:48, 25 February 2014 (EST)

Now that things look good, what'll the page be called? I'm thinking "List of Director's Room Miiverse posts" or something, with something like "(July-December 2013)" stuck on the end if multiple pages are necessary. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Yellow 23:49, 25 February 2014 (EST)

Sounds good to me. Miles (talk) 00:33, 26 February 2014 (EST)
I did want it to be on the main Miiverse article, but if the list is too long, I guess it could have its' own list, with the Miiverse article linking to it. If I had known you would plan to move it this early, I wouldn't have touched your userspace. SeanWheeler (talk) 08:59, 26 February 2014 (EST)

I would second the color coding idea if doable, because I think it would make the chart look more interesting and just bold is too simple. Additionally, I think a section for a user comment about the update could work if it doesn't cramp it. The old dojo update archive we did had them, and I think it added to it, for two things. One, it gives a time capsule effect for where we can see what people thought of the update at the time of its reveal, while the actuality ends up differently. Two, it can give us the ability to explain what the update entails, as the average reader may not understand what Sakurai is saying (as his wording can be unusual and vague). Plus it also gives our archive something over the other archives on the web. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 09:27, 26 February 2014 (EST)

I guess a note would be good too. But what would the color coding be about? SeanWheeler (talk) 09:34, 26 February 2014 (EST)

A "notes" column wouldn't be bad, between the text and link, but it might have to be a bit short.
Colour coding would be something like "red-background date means character reveal, green-background date means stage reveal, etc". Toomai Glittershine ??? Da Bess 10:37, 26 February 2014 (EST)
I went and added both notes and colour-coding to the example. I think it looks pretty good. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Irrepressible 11:22, 26 February 2014 (EST)
If I may suggest, different shades of the colors could represent different things. For example, dark red for veterans while light red for newcomers. In addition to stages being dark (only battlefield so far) and light green, we could have dark and light blue for reconfirmed and new gameplay mechanics respectively, and grey for "silly pictures with no new info" that sakurai posted a lot of early on. FirstaLasto 11:27, 26 February 2014 (EST)
The current setup uses orange for newcomers, aqua for veterans, green for stages, blue for assist characters, yellow for items, and magenta for other notable things. I'm not a fan of using dark/light shades of the same colour because faded dark colours tend to look odd against faded light ones and stand out much more. I also don't think it's necessary to distinguish old and new stages, items, or assists; characters are really the one everyone wants to distinguish. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Multifaceted 11:34, 26 February 2014 (EST)
So where did you get all these links? Do you have a Miiverse account and full access to the Director's Room? If so, is the Director's Room an archive of Sakurai's past posts and screenshots? Could you add all of his screenshots from June til February in one edit? SeanWheeler (talk) 17:36, 26 February 2014 (EST)
Anyone with a Miiverse account can scroll through the whole archive of the Director's Room posts here in English, all the way back to E3 2013. It would simply be a matter of assembling and compiling the page in wikicode. Miles (talk) 17:40, 26 February 2014 (EST)
Too bad I don't have a Miiverse account or even a Wii U. :( I sure hope I could get one soon. This is one good reason I wanted us to link every post on one page. For easier access to those who wanted to read all of Sakurai's comments or wants to cite them. SeanWheeler (talk) 20:41, 26 February 2014 (EST)
Toonami, that looks pretty good, but the yellow and orange look too similar. Maybe if you change one to a purple (and the magenta to more of a true pink) they would be more distinguishable? FirstaLasto 22:30, 26 February 2014 (EST)
Looks like shit to me…23.94.35.126 23:01, 26 February 2014 (EST)
