Origin

The X Bomb first appeared in Kid Icarus: Uprising, where it was an item that Pit could throw at opponents. However, in Uprising, the explosion sends four spheres of energy in the shape of a cross, that proceed to bounce around. The explosion of the X Bomb item in Smash 4 is based upon the explosion of the X Bomb item in the Meteos series. Indeed, when the item was first revealed, Masahiro Sakurai posted on Miiverse: "Here's the X Bomb from Kid Icarus: Uprising. Not to be mistaken for the one from Meteos."
