Did you think about that question before you asked it?Carbonkirby 14:10, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

"Here I'll Show You!" or "Now I'll Show You!"

I know that the official website says it's "Now I'll show you!", but to me, it sounds like he says "Here I'll show you!" My friend and I are debating about this, and I'm trying to figure out what it is. --Riko 19:53, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

It's "Now I'll show you!" It doesn't make sense if he says "Here's I'll show you" by the way he says it; Sonic emphasizes the first word.--Richard 20:54, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, the translator probably translated what Sonic says in the JAPANESE version. Y'know, on the website69.12.204.63 22:02, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

In the USA version, it is definitely, positively, absolutely, without a doubt HERE I'll show you. I went to the sound test. - Gargomon251 (talk) 22:10, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

In the PAL version, Sonic says "Now I'll show you". Xeze (talk) 13:21, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

I own the NTSC version, and he clearly says "Now I'll show you!" Just go to the sound test and click on it rapidly. Sonic will say "N-N-N-Now I'll show you!" Enigmatic Mr. L (talk)

Hmmm...

How is the last trivia relevant to Smash? Friedbeef1 Ho ho ho! 17:55, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Validity of infinite Super Sonic glitch

You sure this actually works or is this just another rumor? Seems too good to be true. Kaihedgie (talk) 03:34, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

What does Sonic say?

Me and my boyfriend keep arguing if Sonic says "Now, I'll show you!" or "Here, I'll show you!". I'm betting that it's "Here, I'll show you!"... "Now, I'll show you!" doesn't make any sense at all. "Here, I'll show you!" doesn't make much sense either though... We listened to the soundtrack a thousand times and he is still stupid enough to think he is saying "now". Can someone help prove I'm right? Or just give us proof of what he says so we can settle the argument. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.31.65.208 (talkcontribs) 02:29, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

He says "Now, I'll show you!". "Here, I'll show you!" wouldn't make sense. "Now, I'll show you!" means that whereas normal Sonic lacks effective finishing moves even at reasonable high damages, now he's Super Sonic he can KO opponents on very low damages. I couldn't really prove it without asking the developers, but I'm fairly certain that he says "Now, I'll show you!". PenguinofDeath 11:18, September 18, 2009 (UTC)

Are you people deaf? He obviously says "Here I'll show you!" Who cares if it makes sense, it's what he says.

That "here" sounds a lot like a "hey", as in "Hey I'll show you!!" -Anthony1996 (talk) 03:25, March 26, 2010 (UTC)

I was playing an all-Sonic match in Brawl just a few minutes ago...

He actually says "Here", not "Now". If you don't believe me, here is a video: [1] @1:49. But I've also taken into consideration (out of good faith) that because PoD and Toomai are in Europe, that maybe they have a different version, in which Sonic says "Now". I don't know, but in the American version of Brawl, Sonic says "here". BNK [E|T|C] 23:47, March 24, 2010 (UTC)

As per the official website (Final Smash section, 2nd screenshot), it's "Now I'll show you!". Same thing on the English (UK) section of the site, and the same caption in the Spanish and Italian sections read "Now see!" and "Now I'll show you!" respectively. None of the other languages use the word "here" (according to Google's translator, anyway). As far as I care, that's proof enough. (I'm Canadian, by the way, but as far as pronunciation goes English is American vs. non-American anyway.) Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png The Stats Guy 00:05, March 25, 2010 (UTC)
That was a caption, not an official quote. If anything, the site director (Sakurai) was quoting Sonic's Japanese quote translated to English. Did you watch the video? You know he says "here"! If the site says otherwise, then the fact that he says "Here" in the English version should at least be trivial. BNK [E|T|C] 00:13, March 25, 2010 (UTC)
I watched the video and heard "now" as clear as it's been for the past three years, even when attempting to imagine a distortion that would give rise to "here". They're completely different vowel sounds; it's like trying to say "cow" as "near". Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png eXemplary Logic 00:30, March 25, 2010 (UTC)
Oh, and a Google search for "Super Sonic "Now I'll show you!"" returns 25,900 results. "Super Sonic "Here I'll show you!"" returns 14,500 results, the top four or five of which are arguments/debates/questions about what the quote is. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png The Stats Guy 00:34, March 25, 2010 (UTC)
I don't hear, nor can I picture him saying "Now". I'm telling you, it's "Here". His tone even suggests that it's "Here"; in this "tone", if he were to say "now", he would be saying it as if he were taking turns in transforming, since he puts emphasis on "I'll". BNK [E|T|C] 00:37, March 25, 2010 (UTC)
Mathematician time: Sonic clearly says "Here I'll show you!" in the video which means that on at least one occasion, Sonic has been known to say "Here I'll show you" when activating his Final Smash. Setting aside any possibility of foul play (hacking, re-dubbing, etc.), there are three logical explanations for this:
  1. On either all or certain copies, Sonic says "Here I'll show you!" instead of "Now I'll show you!";
  2. On either all or certain copies, Sonic says either "Here I'll show you!" or "Now I'll show you!", selected at random;
  3. BNK and I are hearing things and he actually says "Now I'll show you!".
Given that I've been hearing "Now I'll show you!" for years, I can't be sure which is correct. All I know is that I heard "Here I'll show you!" in that video... PenguinofDeath 02:02, March 25, 2010 (UTC)
In that video, on the right side of the screen, there is another video in which you can clearly hear sonic say "now I'll show you." Considering I've never heard him say "here" I'm guessing that video was a hack. 98.111.95.78 03:11, March 25, 2010 (UTC)

Maybe it happens on occasions. I have never heard him say "Here" it has always been "Now". ☆The Solar Dragon (Talk)☆ 06:49, March 25, 2010 (UTC)

So far, PoD's response is the only one that actually makes sense (the uploader of that video is incapable of "hacking sounds", 98.111.95.78). While I agree with PoD's options, I also consider that it is mainly a version difference. But if that is true, then why are there some American owners of Brawl who also hear "Now" instead of "Here"? This is truly a sticky wicket. BNK [E|T|C] 23:53, March 25, 2010 (UTC)

Survey time

Righto, in light of the impasse we're having with this "now" vs. "here" thing, here's a survey for everyone. Just post whether you hear "now" or "here" along with where you live/grew up. The idea is to see if people's accents - which affects their perception of others' accents - is causing this sonoric rift. (This is assuming that they did not change Sonic's line between regions of the game, which is a reasonable assumption.)

This isn't necessary. I think both quotes should be mentioned, with Sonic saying "Here" being part of the trivia section. BNK [E|T|C] 00:12, March 26, 2010 (UTC)
Find another video where he says "here". For all we know, it could be a beta version, or a fake. Until further evidence, ignore it. However, I still find it interesting, and if you find another video where he says that, I will personally add it to the article. 98.111.95.78 00:24, March 26, 2010 (UTC)
I could find plenty of videos of Sonic saying "here"; and it isn't a beta version. What kind of assumption is that? And you can edit protected pages now? BNK [E|T|C] 00:45, March 26, 2010 (UTC)
Oh, the sonic page is protected. Oh well. But can you provide a link to these supposed videos? 98.111.95.78 00:59, March 26, 2010 (UTC)
It's up there! BNK [E|T|C] 01:18, March 26, 2010 (UTC)

i'm going to solve this

Okay

I very nearly trolled a troll here that would have started the rapture.

So I'll refrain and summarize.

Give me the video. I will extract the audio and put it in a spectrogram. I am a linguist with formal training in phonetics. The difference will be night and day on a spectrogram.

You dig Semicolon (talk) 01:31, March 26, 2010 (UTC)

werd BNK [E|T|C] 01:37, March 26, 2010 (UTC)

voting is not necessary. in this video it is clearly 'here i'll show you'.

  • there is no low frequency energy to suggest nasal airflow as would be consistent with 'now'
  • the vowel formants are decisively not in positions that suggest back or low vowels, which is also consistent with now

so there's your answer. we'll be having no more debate about this. this trivial matter is henceforce settled. Semicolon (talk) 02:07, March 26, 2010 (UTC)

Well, I finally managed to start hearing both "here" and "now" in the provided video, although the brain-squinting that was required was intense, and it could just be the subliminal effect of "everyone's saying it's this". Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png The Stats Guy 03:03, March 26, 2010 (UTC)
If Semi says it, it's the word. Let's put it in the article. 98.111.95.78 04:13, March 26, 2010 (UTC)
^seriously, let's put it in the article. BNK [E|T|C] 21:58, March 26, 2010 (UTC)
