BeSmash 2016 was fighting game tournament held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from July 23rd-24th, 2016. It featured a Super Smash Bros. for Wii U regional. A Melee event was also planned, however it was unknown whether it actually ran.
Tournament summary
At 212 entrants, this was the largest recorded singles Smash event held in the Dominican Republic until Blink Respawn 2022, and still remains one of the largest Smash singles events in the Caribbean.
This event is best known for Sharpyzard's victory with Charizard, a character at that time was widely regarded as non-viable. After losing to DigitalStrider in winner semis, was able to come back and take the event after defeating Capitancito, Papin, Stark, and DigitalStrider twice. Sharpyzard's success at BeSmash 2016, alongside other strong performances with Charizard both in the Domincan Republic and in the United States, was one of the reasons for Charizard's rise on the third tier list. Although many other Charizard performances, including from Sharpyzard himself, have since overshadowed Sharpyzard's performance at this event, BeSmash 2016 remained the largest tournament win from a Charizard player in terms of entrants count.
