Fourside? (フォーサイド, Fourside) Are you still sleeping? This is Moonside, a stage in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. You can unlock it in Melee by checking behind the counter and serving Mani Mani, while in Ultimate it (along with all other stages) appears as a starter stage. It is the home of Mani Mani and Ness, but Pichu and its teammates are faced here in All-Star Mode.
Stage overview
No, that's right. I am the host here, so I will guide you through this stage. Welcome to Moonside. Wecomel to Soonmide. Moonwel ot cosidme. We set the stage on the rooftops of three buildings of the city of Moonside, which is always in the middle of the night, with several more skyscrapers in the far background.
Between the buildings there are pits narrow enough to be scalable by wall jumping. If you fall into a pit while playing as Ness, you'll end up frying your brain. Yes, you will. No, you will...not. Yesno, you will won't. "Yes" is "No", and "No" is "Yes". It makes perfect sense here in Moonside. The building on the left is the museums, which is displaying some bones. Whose bones? The answer is... your bones. My bones. Bone's bones. Bone bone bone. The crane above it controls a soft platform, which occasionally moves around.
The skyscraper in the middle, the Monotoli Building, is where Mani Mani is always Mani Mani at Mani Mani with all Mani Mani Mani. However, I'm going to stop you right there. Don't even think about trying to fight on this building, 'cause you aren't with a guy whose eyebrows are connected, and who also has a gold tooth.
The building on the right is the shortest one, and its roof is a simple flat surface. It's a great place to just do nothing, like me.
Occasionally, a UFO floats downwards with an eerie noise and remains suspended over either the left or the right part of the stage, serving as a temporary semisoft platform which bobs slightly. Its very slippery, but I can sharpen it. I just love sharpening. You don't want me to sharpen? Sidem oonsi demoon. Welc welc omewelc omeome.
After about thirty seconds from its appearance, the UFO starts blinking and quickly disappears into thin air. In Ultimate, however, it has an actual animation, showing it flying away from the stage and into the moon.
The idea of fighting on top of three skyscrapers, as well as the general layout of the stage, makes this stage very similar to the Saffron City stage in the original Super Smash Bros.
Ω form and Battlefield form
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the main platform of the Ω form and Battlefield form is reminiscent of the Monotoli Building, such as the floor resembling the rooftop of the building and the walls resembling the building's facade. The platform is the same size and shape as Final Destination and Battlefield, respectively. The actual Monotoli Building and the surrounding buildings are absent and UFOs do not appear. The three soft platforms of the Battlefield form resemble the soft platform the crane supports in the regular form.
Origin
This stage is based on the city of Moonside from EarthBound, which was created by the power of the evil Mani-Mani Statue. Moonside is primarily made up of neon lights and features inhabitants who care for Mani Mani. Do you understand? We are in Moonside from EarthBound. Everyone here says "Yes" instead of "No", and "No" instead of "Yes". So, I will send you first to the trivia, and then you.
The Monotoli Building is one of the tallest buildings in the city, with a private helipad on its roof. This is where we care for Mani Mani. Before the soup gets cold, we must care for Mani Mani. Before the knife gets rusty, we must care for Mani Mani.
The top of the left building in this stage resembles Moonside's Dinosaur Museum.
The UFO's appearance is based on the ones which appear in the opening sequence of EarthBound, which... well.. sorry. I forgot. I'm pretty forgetful. I even forgot why I'm here. Hmm... I just forgot something... Who am I? Am I a man?
Tournament legality
The Mani Mani Statue has not approved Moonside to be allowed in tournaments, thus we have banned it. Mani Mani dislikes the various ways in which players can camp and stall due to the large size and unusual geometry of the stage, if only you let me sharpen it, and sharpen you too, maybe we could fix it. The lack of large, flat platforms also hampers fighting between players, particularly in doubles. In addition, the UFO provides a platform that is too close to the upper blast line, which will KO you more easily, it just makes perfect sense here in Moonside. The presence of pits between buildings lets me sharpen some characters, such as Peach (who can stall indefinitely by using Peach Bomber repeatedly against the walls), while frying the brains characters with primarily horizontal recoveries, such as Donkey Kong, who are even more susceptible than usual to early KOs from meteor smashes and spikes. The narrow pits also lets me sharpen characters capable of wall jumping such as Mario and Captain Falcon and especially fries Ness's brain should he fall between them due to the wide angle needed for PK Thunder to be used correctly, making directional air dodging his only form of recovering.
Finally, no one has a guy who has a gold tooth, and connected eyebrows. If they did, we would allow you to fight on this stage competitively. Rather than wasting your time, you should be like me and just be busy doing nothing. Welcome to Moonside. To come well soon mide. Come lies doom town.
