Counter Throw (カウンター投げ, Counter Throwing) is one of the three down special moves for the Mii Brawler in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Overview
The move functions as a counterattack, hence the name. When used, the Brawler takes a defensive stance with its hands covering its face, similarly to Little Mac when he uses Slip Counter. If not hit, the Brawler goes through a small period of endlag, but if it is hit, a heartbeat line icon will appear above its head, and the Brawler will proceed to grab the opponent and throw them behind it. Like other counterattacks, the throw gains strength depending on the damage of the countered attack.
Since the counterattack is a grab, the opponent must be within close range to be grabbed; attacks from below soft platforms will fail to be countered. Additionally, moves with a long enough range will cause the grab to miss: some examples include disjointed hitboxes (such as Bayonetta's smash attacks and Bullet Arts, or Simon and Richter's forward smashes), projectiles (such as Charge Shot), or even sufficiently long down tilts aimed at the Mii Brawler's feet.
Additionally, though counters are generally categorized by having a large amount of lag after they are used, Counter Throw is actually very fast for a counter, allowing it to be spammed due to its low ending lag. However, this is compensated by the move's shorter counter window.
Countered attacks have a multiplier of 1.5x.
Trivia
- Counter Throw is the first and only counter in the series that retaliates with a grab.
