Pichu is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It was confirmed on June 12th, 2018.
Changes from Super Smash Bros. Melee
Like in Melee, Pichu damages itself when using electric attacks. It is also no longer a clone, as it is not labeled as an Echo Fighter. Unlike Dr. Mario and (possibly) Young Link however, it is not clear if it is a semi-clone or a completely unique fighter this time around.
Aesthetics
- Pichu's design and proportion now matches the latest games in the Pokémon franchise. Its colors are more vibrant and it's much more expressive than in Melee.
- Pichu now has squash and stretch in its animations, giving it a bouncy feel.
- Many of Pichu's attacks now have new animations differing from its moveset in Melee.
- Pichu has a new taunt akin to Pikachu's up taunt, except it humorously becomes dizzy afterwards.
Ground attacks
- Forward tilt can trip opponents.
- Forward tilt has an electric effect, thus causing recoil damage to Pichu.
Special moves
- Thunder meteor smashes targets hit high above Pichu and into the electric blast, akin to Pikachu's.
- Like with Pikachu's Thunder, the electricity discharged when the lightning from strikes Pichu is yellow rather than blue, and has Pichu flash with a dark tint.
- Pichu now bounces back after connecting with Skull Bash. This makes it better for hit-and-run but worse for approach.
- Pichu now has a Final Smash, which is similar to Pikachu's: it has Pichu dash quickly around the stage at different angles while surrounded in a ball of electricity, then launching opponents with an electric blast at the end of the move as the ball disappears.
