Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd. (株式会社スクウェア・エニックス・ホールディングス) is a Japanese video game developer, video game publisher, and distribution company. It is best known for making role-playing video game franchises, having created well-known titles such as Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, Mana, Dragon Quest, Parasite Eve, and (with Disney Interactive) Kingdom Hearts. With Nintendo, Square Enix has produced a strong number of exclusives including the Bravely series and several Mario games: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Mario Hoops 3-on-3, Mario Sports Mix, Itadaki Street DS (Japan only), and Fortune Street.

The original Square Enix was formed as the result of a merger between Square and Enix. The merge occurred on April 1, 2003 with Enix as the surviving company. Since then, Square Enix has also acquired the Taito Corporation and Eidos Interactive, bringing numerous franchises including Space Invaders, Bubble Bobble, and Tomb Raider into the Square Enix fold.

In Super Smash Bros. 4

One of Square Enix's flagship characters, Cloud Strife from the Final Fantasy series, appears as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4, announced during a Nintendo Direct on November 12th, 2015 as downloadable content along with a stage based on Midgar and a Chocobo Mii Fighter hat.

In addition to Cloud, Geno from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars appears as a DLC costume for the Mii Gunner.
