Should this be in Category:Shortcut templates? Red (Talk) Special:Contributions/Red 09:37, 1 May 2014 (EDT)

A few improvements suggested.

I have created this: }}} (SSBM){{#if:{}|/{}}}|{{#if:{}|{}|{}}}, which is an improvement on the current template. It can both provide alternate text and it supports subpages. In otherwords would be the same as ARCode. My first reaction is "this seems overly specific", since there's only like a dozen non-moveset subpages in the (SSBM) area, and it would be nice for this template to be as brief as possible due to its massive usage. My second reaction is that the template code of is 15 wikicode characters, while the raw link of Alt is 9. You could cut the template down to 11 with one-letter params, but there comes a point where readibility trumps shortness. So overall I can't say I see the benefit here. Toomai Glittershine ??? The benefit is that, in the end, the only parameter that has to be used is the one for the page title. Nothing the wiki already has would have to be changed in any way. Serpent King (talk) 10:55, 6 August 2015 (EDT)
That's tangential to my point, which is that in the cases where the new optional params would be used, simply using the raw link version is less complex. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Brazen 11:09, 6 August 2015 (EDT)
What if the alt parameter was removed and we just did the sub parameter? Serpent King (talk) 11:19, 6 August 2015 (EDT)
Link templates are supposed to make linking easier and more efficient; what you're proposing would do the opposite. Miles (talk) 12:37, 6 August 2015 (EDT)
