June 13th List

So it's a little early. Sue me.

Anyway, Mii Brawler continues to give absolutely no fucks towards the current meta, reaching his most retardedly high score yet, putting him a good 10 points above the second highest, also a Mii Fighter. This new domination of the Mii Fighters yet again leaves me to wonder whether or not I should even keep them on this list anymore, as the only times they are recorded in the rankings are whenever they win, giving them such a disproportionately high number of wins as to completely break the way these rankings are calculated.

In other news, Mewtwo continues to fluctuate in the high-ish tiers; Duck Hunt, Wii Fit, Kirby, Game & Watch, and Samus have seen quite a noticeable jump in place; Lucina has officially shit the bed, dropping 15 places; Black Pit and Pit are still really far apart despite being the same damn character; and Lizardon still has not won a single tournament in over 5 months.

Hopefully, the new characters will prove to be the saviors we need to topple the Mii Fuckery.

April 15th List

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the end of an era. Once we reconvene here next month, there will be a 52nd place for our Mii Gunner friend to rot in for all eternity. Meanwhile, as long as people don't play Mii Brawler, he will continue to score a disproportionately high number of tournament wins, thereby anchoring his place in top tier for years to come. In the meantime, we can all congratulate Mii Swordfighter for not sucking for once. Isn't it amazing? I mean sure, he's still fairly pathetic, but I would consider it to be more amazing that he's not at the bottom than it is that the clone characters are still placed so damn high. Also, check out those meteoric rises of Janc-Man and Projectile Mutt. As for the falls of Zelda and Purin... talk about Agony in Pink. And don't even try to mention the whole Pit/Black Pit thing; it still doesn't make sense, so we're just going to have to learn to deal with it and move along.

... Mewtwo cannot come soon enough.

March 16th List

You see this? This is why the Mii Fighters should not be on the tier list. For all of you who care about as much as I do about them, you can just ignore the top and bottom-most tiers. The real question we should be asking here is: will Mewtwo be on the next list? I say, "if it bleeds, it leads", which roughly translates into "not a chance, bucko". That being said, it's quite refreshing seeing someone hog the spotlight other than the clone characters for once. I fully expect them to continue to decline until they reach about the same -or lower- rank as their original counterparts. This month's Character of the Month Award goes to Pit, for dropping twenty-four places, proving once again that his ranking on the previous list was just a fluke caused by the fluctuations, and that Black Pit still does not nearly deserve his spot on this month's list.

Also, as I'm sure you can tell, this month features the largest tier list in the history of tier lists, with 24 characters. This is absolutely horrifying and I apologize in advance for exposing this to you.

Let us hope it never happens again.

February 14th List

Doc, Meta Knight, and Mario put in some real work to get into the high tiers. At last, all the clones are in the top 5, despite their original characters scoring way lower even though the clones are THE SAME DAMN THING, BUT WORSE. Also of note are Zelda and Toon Link's rises, from the shitty bottom tiers to the slightly less shitty lower tiers. You have to really think at this point, is it even worth it? To the social outcast who wants nothing more than to find a band of like-minded rejects to hang out with just to keep themselves from travelling the route of the psychotic basement-dwelling manchild, yes. It is.

Speaking of psychotic basement-dwelling manchildren, this month's bed shitters are Sheik, Villager, Wii Fit, Samus, and Yoshi, throwing out all of the advantages they have going for them in maths and sciences to pursue a lifelong passion of theatre, in which they act out the bewildering and somewhat frustrating story of their own career suicide. And what the hell is up with Mr. Beep Boop coming in last place again? Is this game racist or something? Ageist? Dimensionist? Who knows. All I know is that when a character places 5th for three consecutive months only to drop to dead last, something is NOT OKAY. Perhaps Morse Code Man is finally undergoing some kind of clinical depression stemming from an existential crisis after being yanked out of the handheld video game medium yet again to do battle against foes in an alien dimension that his feeble 4-bits of RAM can't even comprehend. Or maybe Binary Bob is just sad that the Mii Fighters are still not on the list. Well, based on the data collected, a whopping 0-2 representatives of each Player Avatard made an appearance at APEX. I can't blame them-- the Fighters were gimped almost as hard as Chillin during his Fiscal Feud with Leffen, what with that whole "no customs" bullshit. And that's what happens when you allow the game-defining ruleset for a 3 month old meta to be designed by the same people who thought hosting the event in a derelict shithole with an average rating of 3/10 was a good idea.

January 16th List

So, here it is. Apparently, my data source hasn't updated at all since the last list I did, so I just went "fuck it" and switched over to the Wii-U version of the game. As you can probably tell, this resulted in extreme changes brought on by the fact that people know better than to use all the lame characters. As a result, the clones continue to deviate drastically from their originals, with Lucina and Black Pit making the top 3. Meanwhile, characters like Falco and Game & Watch just shit the bucket and PLUMMETED FOURTY-THREE POSITIONS to reach their current statuses. Pit also got rescued from the lower-than-bottom tier and resides in a place more deserving for Sakurai's finest. Now you may be wondering, where are the Mii Fighters? Well, you see, the Mii Fighters have reached a new low in relevance, rivaled only by Smash Bros. for 3DS itself. I decided that it would probably be in my best interests to not include characters with only 1-3 instances of data which is heavily skewed because the only people who use these God-forsaken characters just so happen to be the only ones to consistently pull tournament victories out of their collective asses. Who knows? Perhaps if the Mii Fighters aren't completely ignored at APEX, I might consider adding them back in. Might.

December 15th List

Well, with the release of Smash for Wii U this past month, this will most likely be the last list before we switch games. Anyway, several characters are still too low or too high compared with how good they actually are as characters, no thanks to the current lack of a metagame outside of "bitch about characters you can't defeat". Several characters have not changed places in the past month and eight characters have not been played at all, proving that Smash for 3DS was little more than a glorified demo to tide people over until the real game came out. Due to finally winning a fricken' tournament, Olimar has successfully jumped 32 places, from the "Why Is Pit All The Way Down Here While Black Pit Is Way Up There" Tier to the "Seriously They're The Same Bloody Character For Crying Out Loud" Tier. Meanwhile, Palutena and Reflet have moved down 9 and 10 places, respectively, thereby denying them both the pleasure of hanging out with all the cool kids. Look, they're all pointing and laughing at them now. How sad.

Little do they all know that the next list is gonna hit them like a sack of dead swordfighters.

November 18th List

Well, here it is. After a second month, some of the problems with the previous list have been fixed, only to be replaced with even greater ones due to the wild character fluctuations that occur with a relatively low amount of data. Of particular note, Wario shot up to the #1 spot thanks to complete dumb luck, rising THIRTY-FIVE places to do so. Other notable rises/crashes include Kirby, rising 34; Palutena, rising 31; Meta Knight, rising 20; Luigi, falling 28; Shulk, falling 29; and Yoshi, falling 20. Most notably, all the good characters are in the garbage tiers due to their statistics being dominated by the sudden influx of new players who have no idea what they're doing. This just goes to show, it's still way too early to be making tier lists.

At least the points gap is lower this time.
