Fox McCloud has appeared in every Super Smash Bros. game to date. He wears his Star Fox 64 outfit in the series. His "Fire Fox" special move is a fire attack which he can use to gain (or lose, if need be) altitude (usually to recover from off of the edge); which he hovers in the air and charges it up. It can be directed using the analog stick on the controller. His "Reflector" (also known as the "Shine," or "Deflector") is a blue hexagonal structure that returns enemy projectile attacks and damages opponents. Super Smash Bros. Melee, the second game of the series, makes him lighter (although also making him fall more quickly), and adds a "Fox Illusion" dash attack. His blaster was sped up but also no longer stunned enemies. His "Fire Fox" attack was also changed somewhat graphically. In Melee, fellow Star Fox character Falco Lombardi can be unlocked as well. He plays rather similar to how Fox played in Super Smash Bros.

He was confirmed on November 3, 2006 at the Nintendo World Tour to be in the upcoming part of the series, Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Fox's outfit in Brawl is similar to, though not completely the same as, his 64 and Command designs. Additions include a holster for his gun, a green lens over his right eye, and a small device on his belt which is the Reflector that generates a hexagonal shield. This is the first time the underlying mechanism behind the deflector shield has been explained. Many of Fox's attacks are or were unexplained, and were largely created especially for the smash bros. series, having never appeared in any StarFox game before. His headset's microphone also appears on the right side of his face instead of the left side which was the case for all previous appearances except Adventures and Assault. John C. Reilly is set to voice the character, and he will be animated.

Final Smash

Fox's Final Smash is called Landmaster. The title is self-explanatory. Fox summons a landmaster tank which he then climbs into. You control the Landmaster by pressing the jump button to hover, down to roll, and the attack button to fire its cannon. Rolling can force your opponents off your landmaster so you can attack them.
