Wario (SSB4)

Wario returns as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4, as confirmed by a leaker's Twitch stream. This time around, he is unlockable, as opposed to being available from the start in Brawl.

His appearance is largely the same, except with his chin being more pronounced, and the colors being overall brighter, more akin to the WarioWare series.

He retains his biker outfit from the WarioWare series, as well as his overalls from the Mario games.

How To Unlock

  • Complete 100-man Smash.

Changes from Brawl

  •   Forward tilt is sped up.
  •   Wario's forward smash is no longer the shoulder bash, and instead is a backhanded punch similar to old Mario and Luigi's foward smash in SSB64, which has more range.
  •   Down smash has less endlag.
  •   Down tilt is sped up.
  •   Wario's up-smash is replaced with a head butt similar to Mario, Luigi and Dr. Mario's, which is stronger.
  •   Wario can heal himself by 1% by eating his bike.
  •   Wario Bike's wheels cannot be used as projectiles when the bike is destroyed, and disappear upon contact with the ground.
    •   However, Wario can use Chomp to eat the wheels and recover health before they land.
  •   Wario's animations are generally more fluid than in Brawl.
  •   Wario's back and forward throws from Brawl have swapped places.

Trivia

  • Wario is the only character that debuted as a starter to be made unlockable in a later game.
  • He is one of two characters to have fewer palette swaps in SSB4 than in Brawl (going from 12 options to 8 options), the other being Olimar (if one leaves Alph out).
