- The Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS demo is made publicly available on the Nintendo eShop in North America and Europe.

- Castle Siege is confirmed as a returning stage in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
- 12 September 2014
- Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is officially released in Japan. In addition, Platinum-level Club Nintendo members received a special version of the Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS demo.
- 10-11 September 2014
- Copies of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS start to circulate in Japan. Characters not officially announced that have been seen so far in gameplay footage include veterans Dr. Mario, Wario, Ganondorf, Falco, Ness, Jigglypuff, Mr. Game & Watch, and R.O.B., and newcomers Bowser Jr., Dark Pit and Duck Hunt. Many other game elements are also seen for the first time.
