- The E3 2014 demo builds of both versions of Super Smash Bros. 4 will be available to players at San Diego Comic-Con 2014, including Nintendo of America running the first ever tournament of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.
- 14 July 2014
- Captain Falcon, Lucina, and Robin are revealed as playable characters in Super Smash Bros. 4. Chrom is confirmed to appear as part of Robin's Final Smash. Rayman will also appear as a trophy, despite being a third party character with no current connection to the Smash Bros. franchise.

- At EVO 2014, Mango, Hungrybox, and Armada take 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place respectively in Melee singles, and Hungrybox and Plup win Melee doubles.
- 6 July 2014
- At Kings of Cali 4, Mango, Armada, and Mew2King take 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place respectively in Melee singles, and Armada and Mew2King win Melee doubles.
