Novel idea or terribad idea?
Should we move #sw
to #smashwiki
? Toomai Glittershine The Incomperable 23:30, 11 November 2013 (EST)
- No. --Timson622222 (talk) 23:30, 11 November 2013 (EST)
- If you want to make the channel have a more clear channel name, go ahead. Dots (talk) The N64 23:38, 11 November 2013 (EST)
- I don't see why it really matters, but I don't mind that much. Scr7(talk · contribs) 10:56, 12 November 2013 (EST)
- Quite needless, I like #sw. Toast ltimatum 18:34, 12 November 2013 (EST)
- As do I. Also where have you been Toast?! RoyboyX Talk 18:35, 12 November 2013 (EST)
- I don't really care one way or another, but if I had to pick a side, I think "#smashwiki" makes the channel's name more identifiable, as "SW" can be used as an acronym for many things. SmashBall104: Super Effective? My ass! 19:11, 12 November 2013 (EST)
- Move #sw could stand for Star Wars or Save the Whales or something like that. Awesome Cardinal 2000 19:14, 12 November 2013 (EST)
- Well I guess it would be fine to move it, if you're fine with going through the hassle of having to recreate the access list and having to redirect the channel frequenters who aren't aware of this move suggestion to the new channel. Scr7(talk · contribs) 11:51, 21 November 2013 (EST)
- Entirely pointless, and just creates work. PenguinofDeath 16:40, 21 November 2013 (EST)
The registration expired.
Just bringing this up. Scr7(talk · contribs) 11:06, 16 May 2014 (EDT)
- ...what, that doesn't make sense, I thought they're only supposed to expire if no op or higher is on in two months. Ugh, I'll try to fix this shortly. Toomai Glittershine The Ghostbuster 11:10, 16 May 2014 (EDT)
Okay this got fixed. Toomai Glittershine The Superlative 11:40, 16 May 2014 (EDT)
Move onto another network?
After talking with fellow IRC users on this matter, it has come to my attention of a move from GameSurge onto a new network. Considering GameSurge's lack of convenience as of late and relatively instability, it would be called to move it onto the network administrated by fellow IRC user, FastLizard4. But why? Here's how:
- We won't have to worry about registration dropping
- More staff on to monitor the channel as a whole
- Authserv and most other GameSurge services are horrible. LizardIRC has better services in general.
These reasons let alone should be enough on why the move should be made. Coupled with a server that can be configured to our needs, I see no wrong in such. Conny 12:51, 16 May 2014 (EDT)
- Support: All of the reasons stated above. LizardIRC is a cool network full of cool people. DoctorPain99 13:33, 16 May 2014 (EDT)
- Support. With the ops of the channel barely ever being on, combined with the short time in which channels automatically drop on GameSurge, the risk of the registration of the channel just dropping like it did today is a really bad thing. The services of GameSurge are also terrible; I can't authenticate just because I don't have a specific hostname, and I need to do some authcookie command crap just to identify myself to AuthServ? I don't even get why GameSurge doesn't just use the normal NickServ. Pretty much all the other networks using the "Serv" family don't have this problem. Per what Conny said, LizardIRC is a significantly more convenient network for a channel like this than GameSurge. Scr7(talk · contribs) 13:46, 16 May 2014 (EDT)
- Support. Considering the inactivity of ops, we should prioritize joining a network that won't expire our registration, and LizardIRC is an option that shouldn't be overlooked. JamesHeart 22:56, 16 May 2014 (EDT)
- Support. LizardIRC is way more simpler to use than GameSurge. Also, GameSurge's layout isn't like all the other IRC servers. :P Dots (talk) The Jiggly 23:11, 16 May 2014 (EDT)
- Support, for the reasons stated above. --Timson622222 (talk) 18:04, 17 May 2014 (EDT)
About the the whole "inactivity of the ops" thing:
- Every single one of us have lives and stuff. PoD doesn't use the Wiki anymore, Miles isn't an IRC guy, OT is super busy with life and what not, Toomai does Canadian things, and I'm either in school or playing rat doto.
- All of us really can't be arsed to stay on the IRC and monitor it forever. In everyone else's case, they're too busy with life to even check on and look actively. In my case, I'm just busy enjoying life and playing doto.
- Out of all the users mentioned, OT and I are the only ones who have actively given out our contact information: Skype and/or Steam accounts.
- Put one and one and one together, and you have two options: really hope that we change our ways of life (unlikely) or figure out how to contact us in case of shit like this going on or in case of a spammer or something.
- Bullet points were unnecessary for presenting this information, but they make it look different. MegaTron1XD 23:02, 16 May 2014 (EDT)
Support It is rather glitchy right now. RoyboyX Talk 10:26, 18 May 2014 (EDT)
I can't shake the feeling that all this support is coming from a group of "cool kids" that support this "LizardIRC" for reasons like "we're buddies and we want to use the same network as our favourite channels, and we're using one lapse of GameSurge to get it done". Toomai Glittershine The Quiet 14:07, 19 May 2014 (EDT)
- I've has issues with GameSurge for years and have always voiced such issues. This is the only time anybody actually listened. DoctorPain99 14:15, 19 May 2014 (EDT)
