The Skill parameter has been removed from Smasher infoboxes, and in its place are the new "Best historical ranking" and "Best tournament result" parameters. SmashWiki needs help adding these new parameters to Smasher infoboxes, refer to the guidelines here for what should be included in these new parameters.
When adding results to Smasher pages, include each tournament's entrant number in addition to the player's placement, and use the {{Trn}} template with the matching game specified. Please also fix old results on Smasher pages that do not abide to this standard. Refer to our Smasher article guidelines to see how results tables should be formatted.

Talk:Super Smash Bros. 4/Archive 1

From SmashWiki, the Super Smash Bros. wiki

I am still highly uncertain whether we should have this sort of page. While it's currently pretty well-written and generally contains only the facts, having it around will attract more rumours and such than not having it (since making a page takes a lot more effort then editing one), and since the game isn't expected to have anything worth Nintendo telling us about until 2013 or something, the page'll just sit here attracting dust and garbage. Toomai Glittershine ??? Le Grand Fromage 20:09, 5 October 2011 (EDT)

How about protecting it so only Autoconfirmed users can edit it? BlindColours FALCON... 20:17, 5 October 2011 (EDT)
If we do just allow this page, I think we should have full protection, and have a note on the article telling people to bring suggested changes to the talk page for verification. Plus we should move the title to Super Smash Bros. 4. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 21:34, 5 October 2011 (EDT)

"Current Information" paragraph/section

I can't edit this article, so I'd like to make a prose-like section for the "Current Information" section.

"As development on Super Smash Bros. 4 has not officially started yet, little information is presently available on the game.

Presently, only information about the development date has been officially confirmed: Sakurai has said that development will potentially begin in October, or at the very least, after he has finished development for the game Kid Icarus: Uprising.

Sakurai has stated, in response to a fan asking him about whether a "child Link" would appear in the game, that he has not currently decided on who would appear in the game. Sakurai, however, has also said that he "can't say that it's entirely out of the realm of possibility that some Capcom character could appear in the next Smash Bros." Capcom's Yoshinori Ono also has stated he has an interest in creating a Nintendo vs. Capcom game, in a vein similar to the Marvel vs. Capcom series. [2]"

Incidentally, is it possible to semi-protect this page instead of giving it full protection? It seems kinda extreme at this point... ReiDemon 15:41, 8 October 2011 (EDT)

Registered users are just as likely as IP to add speculation to this article. Once development begins and actual information is released, I think we can downgrade the protection. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 16:50, 8 October 2011 (EDT)

Customisation and Level-Ups

Also, this needs adding.

ToastUltimatum Transparent Swadloon.pngComplaints Box 07:16, 9 October 2011 (EDT)

Here's the important parts of the article;

"Sakurai wants players with the 3DS version of Smash Bros to build up their character through battle and rewards. Then they could take their custom character over to the Wii U version to face off against everyone."

He also said that he's "aiming for the 3DS version to offer players a slightly different experience from conventional Smash Bros. games."

Sakurai said they "wouldn't be a mere extension of Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl." He "did not feel that it would be right to just increase the volume, adding 50 characters or doubling the stages for instance."

"Wii U is an HD system and this version could offer 60 frames per second visuals, high quality graphics, dynamic effects, and smooth character movements."

He believes that "there is merit in having skilled and unskilled players play together, so one emphasis will be on elements of players helping one-another."

Copied directly from http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk with a few speech marks added, so if it looks untidy, sorry.

And also, {{SSBSeries}} should be placed at the bottom of the page. ToastUltimatum Transparent Swadloon.pngComplaints Box 10:57, 16 October 2011 (EDT)

Contacting Sakurai

Is there any way to contact Sakurai to submit character ideas, like it was made for Brawl ? I want to ask him for Victini (Pokémon Series), Tails (Sonic Series), Shadow (Sonic Series), Princess Daisy (Mario Series) and the Mii ! --Wolfy76700 (talk) 13:04, 27 February 2012 (EST)

If Sakurai wanted to listen to people's ideas, he would have given out a form of contact for that purpose. Neither appears to be true, and chances are it would be in Japanese only anyway.

June 2012 update

I'm not sure if this would be a good addition to the article, but Sakurai has stated, "We’ve just taken what you could call the first step of the process. I think, by this point, we have enough information to put the game infobox on this page, so if we were to put it in, the data is below:

Old characters

Hey, I found something interesting. In a Kid Icarus Uprising interview, Sakuri-san says that he plans on bringing old characters into the new game. Here's the exact wording-

Adam Riley: You have mentioned how you like to breathe new life into forgotten franchises. Now that Kid Icarus has been completed, what other old classic would you like to look at? Ice Climbers, Star Tropics, MoleMania…or something non-Nintendo?

Sakurai-san: I am planning on doing my best to bring old characters back in Smash Bros. From that perspective, I am probably in the most fortunate position in the world.

Here's the article- http://www.cubed3.com/news/16920

Zelda101 16:08, 7 July 2012 (EDT)

About the "less new characters" thing

Sakurai never stated that they wouldn't have many new characters, he just said that there won't be many more characters than in Brawl. This could also mean that some veterans will be removed to make room for the new characters. I think that the article should be more clear about that. Dr_Robotnik (talk) 5:00, 10 July 2012 (EDT)

The only thing is we don't exactly know what sakurai meant. I think they should just leave the page as it is until more info is given. ChuckNorris24.png 18:27, 10 July 2012 (EDT)
I think it should be changed to something more neutral since we don't know for sure, something like "Sakurai has stated that the game might not feature a larger number of characters than Brawl."Dr_Robotnik (talk) 5:00, 10 July 2012 (EDT)

That's a good idea except neither of us can edit this page. ChuckNorris24.png 09:55, 11 July 2012 (EDT)

There is a giant hand in the whiteboard drawing. This is Master Hand. I think an administrator should list it under the list of things that appear in the drawing. Master Hand is where the Pikmin, Fox, and Marth is at. As for the Simpsons thing, the only place it would go to would probably be an article for Super Smash Bros. in popular culture. Magiciandude (talk) 01:31, 18 July 2012 (EDT)

Project Sora Dissolved

This might be worth mentioning in the article. Project Sora was dissolved on June 30, and their website has been updated stating this. Here's a link to a news post at Nintendo Everything. [4]. Unknown the Hedgehog 03:26, 11 July 2012 (EDT)

Exactly how notable would it be in two years time that a company was not involved in the producion of the game? Not very. The details are already on Sora, that will suffice. Toast Wii U Logo Transparent.pngltimatumTransparent Swadloon.png 07:23, 11 July 2012 (EDT)
Ok, I just wasn't completely sure. Because on the Sora page it said that Project Sora should be expected to make Smash Bros. 4, so I was just making sure whether or not this would be relevant here. Unknown the Hedgehog 14:20, 11 July 2012 (EDT)

Rumors section outdated

That rumor was disproven by two things, both as soon as it started

  1. Sakurai's signature is a blatant forgery
  2. Sakurai confirmed work on Smash hadn't started shortly after this.

I found something interesting in this article http://andriasang.com/comw97/iwata_asks_smash_bros/

Scroll towards the end, it says this- In a closing message in the Iwata Asks column, Sakurai threatened (or possibly joked) that if they can't find appropriate staff, he'll either switch to development on just one platform, or will use a small staff and take five years to make the project.
