Forum:Olimar and pikmin
Can anyone give me a few simple tips with getting good with olimar? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.198.98.66 (talk • contribs) 01:22, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
Always have 6pikmin before charging in. When more than 2 die, charge out. Olimar's running A move is one of his best moves. Olimar has some of the best throws and grabs. Use them. Olimar's >B has further range than his smash, and, in my opinion, is better. White pikmin tend to do the most damage. Purple pikmin do best knockback. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.10.116.46 (talk • contribs) 13:06, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
Keep in mind that the Pikmin Throw leaves Pikmin vulnerable for attack. Use it in combination with other moves. Also, the Pikmin Chain can work as a nice edge guarding move, in some cases. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pikamander2 (talk • contribs) 17:00, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
Perfect timing to open this, I have some info to post. :) Ok so his directional areal moves make great killing moves with red pikmin, or purple pikmin, purple pikmin with D-air is a powerful meteor smash/spike attack. Pikmin throw (>B/B side) is a great move for building up damage, and if the entire set is on that one enemy, watch him, because, if he is charging up a smash attack, call your pikmin back with Whistle (Bv/B down) so that way your pikmin don't all die. One easier way to get purple pikmin and white pikmin is to stand near an edge with some space between you and the edge, face away from the edge, and pikmin pluck (basic B move) some pikmin. Purple and white pikmin when plucked move a shorter distance compared to the other pikmin, so all purple pikmin and white pikmin should land on ground, and the others fall down (it will be easier to understand with practice). White pikmin when flowered will do slightly more damage (with their grab attack Pummel Z+A) then when they are leaf pikmin. Avoid going in water, and use F-air with red or purple pikmin, as that move is powerful for KO'ing enemies. Now, one important (and juicy) tidbit of knowledge is how to use pikmin for defencive purposes. Red pikmin can be thrown ahead of you to take the hits of missles, thrown bombs (I think), and maybe curry fireballs. Yellow pikmin are conveniet, one yellow pikmin can be hit by a full Charge Shot, and not be phased by it. Learner4
While Olimar and his Pikmin may be able to string together some good comboes, people keep forgetting one major disadvantage: Olimar can't do anything without his Pikmin! All he can do with no Pikmin is tilts, his neutral combo, and his neutral aerial. With only five moves in his arsenal, Olimar will surely get owned by other characters. Also, he's tremendously easy to edge-guard because a Tether Recovery is his only option. Just grab the edge! And, when he has no Pikmin, Olimar can't use his up special to recover at all. Overall, playing as Olimar is too risky. I suggest you get good with Meta Knight, Pit, or someone like that. - GalaxiaD 19:47, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Even though someone posted asking for advice on how to get better at playing with a specified character, you instead attacked the characters' flaws and suggested your own two characters. You seem to be one of those people who post alot but never actually say anything. Again, I advise you work on your attitude while posting. -FlagLapelOnMyChest —Preceding unsigned comment added by FlagLapelOnMyChest (talk • contribs) 14:41, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Look, GalaxiaD, stop being so over-obsessed with Metaknight and Pit. If someone wants to be good with Olimar and thay need help to do it, suggesting they play another character isn't helpful. Olimar may be risky, but sometimes risks have to be made. Olimar has the most powerful projectiles in the game, Olimar has the longest tether recovery. Olimar has perhaps the best final smash, I know you're going to object that items aren't allowed in tournament play, but they are allowed in non-tournament play, which is also a thing. Not everyone plays SSB games so that they can enter into tournaments. So, in conclusion, yes, Olimar may be risky, and yes, he may not be the most impressive, but if you don't want to give advice, then don't! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.12.116.9 (talk • contribs) 10:04, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Believe it or not, you can still DO his up special. It may not tether, but sometimes that little jump he does may just save his life. Some people specifically train using Olimar WITHOUT his Pikmin; I do myself against particularly inexperienced players as a handicap. However, he is rather crippled on stages with water or few tetherable edges. I don't really concern myself with planning each color. If there's a white in line I grab or pikmin toss, and if I want to rack up damage I save the purples for the end, but other than that I don't pay too much mind. The main thing is not to lose track of them. The second you get knocked away from solid ground you should immediately whistle. This should be a habit before you ever pikmin chain. And unless you're midair (juggled or low gravity) there should be no reason to have less than 6 pokemon on the field at any given time. Also beware that you don't accidentally chuck pikmin into stage obstacles of off the edge. Sometimes if you're lucky you can Whistle them back if you hurry. As for attacks, I like his combos to rack up damage, such as uptilt-nair-uair if possible, and fsmash and fair to KO. But I don't use him much more than anyone else, so I don't know if I'm that proficient at him specifically. - Gargomon251 10:33, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
1. I'm not obsessed with Meta Knight or Pit. They're just naturally good, and they'll probably make top tier. 2. Even though I offered no real advice on Olimar's play style, I still made a suggestion as to use better characters, as I can beat Olimar on Lvl. 9 without using any items in 42 seconds, which is possibly a world record. If you lose to someone in 42 seconds, you're not that good. 3. Can I say anything without getting bashed by random people?! These forums are for the sole purpose of saying whatever you want about Smash, but when I do say something, I seem to attract haters like flies on feces. So the stuff I say is controversial. Oh well. I say what I want, and my opinions will not change so that I please people. As the great Bill Cosby once said, "The key to failure is trying to please everybody." And for me, failure is not an option. - GalaxiaD 21:57, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Oh yes, lvl 9s, the height of brawl skill. And as i was saying, not everyone plays to win tournaments, you can say anything you want, yes, but if you want to make a case about the overwhelming skill of Pit, and the overrated skill of someone like MetaKnight, do it in the right place. I realise i'm being a bit hypocritical here, but, oh well, i'll say what i want. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.12.116.9 (talk • contribs) 22:48, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
You do realize that there are people out there who can't even touch a Lvl. 9 CPU right? Also, did I mention that I beat Olimar on Final Destination without the use of any items whatsoever in 42 seconds? 42 FREAKIN' SECONDS!! And you're going to stand there and tell me that that's not impressive? For all we know, you probably can't beat a Lvl. 1 CPU with items! I know a CPU isn't a professional, but you still must give credit where credit is due. And I'll also have you know that Meta Knight is anything but overrated. HE'S INCREDIBLE!!! This is true, especially if you ever saw me control him. My skills with Meta Knight would BLOW YOUR FREAKIN' MIND!!! Sure, you can continue to call me a poser, but whatever. I"LL SAY WHAT I WANT!!! - GalaxiaD 00:35, 6 May 2008 (UTC) "I offered no real advice on Olimar's play style" GalaxiaD
This is what, your third post? And you adress the issue of ignoring the topic of this article for what purpose? Instead, consider attempting to answer the question that was given. Also, lets try to use our little quotes in the right context, because when speaking on a diversial issue, which lets just call it completly promoting your own selfish propoganda agenda, you should use quotes that benefit your arguement.

You're obviously obsessed with Meta-Knight, only look at your nickname, is GalaxiaD! Meta Knight's sword! How can I call a moderator?--Jigglypuff is God 14:23, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Oh yes, 42 seconds, the speed of a, well a, a, errr, Bowser. Your skills with MetaKnight would impress me to the minimum. And there are very few people out there who can't touch a lvl 9. I have a friend who can't even use up B, and he can beat a lvl 9. My point being, that no-one cares you can beat a level 9 without items. And MetaKngiht is overrated. Wooh! He's fast! Wooh, he has no impressive finishing moves! Anyway, point being, that you are vey unhelpful, and pretty detrimental to the forums. Have you made a single post that did not involve MetaKnight? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.13.100.161 (talk • contribs) 4:49, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
FYI, dumbass, I've made many posts that didn't even involve Meta Knight. Look at the "Slower Game Engine" forum for an example. Also, your friend can't use an Up B? That's just laughable. You're extremely naive or idiotic to assume for 1 second that Meta Knight has no good finishers. Forward and Down Smashes anyone? Oh, let's not forget the Shuttle Loop! There's 3 for you right there! Of course, it's completely understandable if you can't count worth shit, given how dumb you are. And if beating a Lvl. 9 CPU doesn't impress you, then you're extremely unappreciative. This is what the world's come to? I bet God himself could appear right before your eyes, and you wouldn't tremble a bit! That's just sad. I really hope you don't end up in Hell for being the ass that you are. Despite my hatred for you, I could never wish that fate upon anybody. Best of luck, dude. You're definitely going to need it. And Jigglypuff is God, SHUT THE FUCK UP!!! I've had enough of you! All you've been doing is shooting me down. You NEVER have anything productive to say. If you want to talk about obsessions, your name says it all. You think Jigglypuff is God? Fine, go worship a false idol if that's what you're into. Sure, it's gay, but you have been a homo all along, so your secret obsession with Jigglypuff doesn't surprise me a bit. I need no longer converse with dumb fucks like you. I'm going to take my forum talks and edits elsewhere throughout SmashWiki. There are a lot of smarter, nicer people than the likes of you! Goodbye and FUCK OFF!!! - GalaxiaD 20:47, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, as likely as it is that I will go to hell, i have indeed led an evil life, and yes, the fact that i don't like Meta Knight means i worship a false idol. But i have to be honest, I love the fact that you can make arguments without swearing! No no, no no, that's everyone else. And errr, if you consider Lvl 9s to be on par with God...well, then, i don't know what to tell you there. And i like the fact you insulted my intelligence based on the fact that i said Meta Knight has no good finishers. That, my friend, is the characteristic of a bad bad arguer. Oh, i do apologise. I don't worship the false idol, i would delete it, but, the back button on my keyboard doesn't work. But as a person, I like you, you seem very balanced and open minded. Oh, and here's the kicker, i think Meta Knights pretty impressive. So, to sum up, don't assume, don't swear, and read your argument, and look at how pathetic your life must be. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.13.100.161 (talk • contribs) 01:15, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Was I FUCKING TALKING TO YOU?! NO! I was talking to that ass they call Jigglypuff is God. He's the one that worships the false idol. YOU'RE the one who always has a smartass comment. To be honest, your attitude sucks balls. And I would NEVER consider a Lvl. 9 CPU to be par with God. NOTHING in this whole universe beats God. He comes first, and I have no idea what gave you the impression that I would even CONSIDER a CPU to be par with God. Just because I used a spiritual comparison? I never explicitly stated that a CPU and God were the same, and the fact that you thought I said that reinforces my point of how much of a retard you are. I simply stated that if God appeared before you, you wouldn't tremble, when you very well should. The message I was sending was that you are unappreciative of true talent in the world around you, and no one likes a jerk who doesn't respect anybody. I hope you learn from this lesson and understand real fast that one of these days, you're going to say something smart like you usually do and someone's going to make your life a living nightmare for it. Despite the fact that I swear and rub off on you as a jerk, you must understand that I'm trying to help you. That's all I ever wanted to do on SmashWiki: help people. There's so much wrong with the world today, and you're a prime example. And the fact that I contribute to this site, have an urge to help people, and have accepted Jesus into my life gives you the right to say that my life is pathetic? I don't think so. My life couldn't be more awesome. How's yours, dude? How's yours? - GalaxiaD 22:02, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Please refrain from the language and personal attacks. - Gargomon251 23:35, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
I'll try Gargomon. But fisrt, i apologise for being as rude as i was. And the reason i called your life pathetic is that you stated "Is this what the world has come to?" when i wasn't impressed you could keep a lvl 9. And i respect that fact you're trying to help people, i do. I was merely trying to help people to. But, i stand by my apology. So, sorry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.13.100.161 (talk • contribs) 07:05, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
I know when to keep quiet, but I have noticed that the computers don't seem to be as skilled as they were in SSB, weird huh? It almost as if the games become easier, but I really think that computers in the original are really good, I got beat by a Kirby who was facing off against 2 computers and me, and we were all teamed up against Kirby, it was my worst lost. SSBM was still good, but in a way not as much, I don't know why. In this game, I rarely lose, but I'm not trying to flame or insult or anything, because I faced off against levels below 6. Well anyways, back on topic, GalaxiaD, I saw what you said in one of your early comments about how Olimar has such a small move set without pikmin. Well, one way to prevent yourself from running out is to whistle when they become seperated, and this won't help however when you B left or right them, they can only come back if they land. And oh yes, when I play as Olimar, I find my matches turn up to be better when there are more players then just two, as usually I am not always the focus of their attention, so during those times, I can attack with a strong hit, he is much weaker because he can lose all of his pikmin when he is juggled, so this flaw is annoying sometimes. But once you get on the ground your better off. Whistle could also save you, so I might use that. An important tip is not to wastefully try to latch your pikmin onto opponents, you will need to watch the opponent, AND if he or she is charging up a Smash attack, then IMMEDIETLY call your pikmin back (B down) it will save them, so always call pikmin back whenever they are in trouble or seperated (and you don't want that). B up is an excelent move for striking your opponents hard. Aerial attacks are good for keepiong opponents off the stage, (not what I'd use for an edge guarder though). And try to use those pikmin defensive tactics whenever it calls for it, and lean towards that stragety when your damage is really high. Learner4 20:46, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Gargomon, you're a great mediator. Next time I have a problem, I'm going straight to you. But in all seriousness, I wish to apologize for all the terrible things I said on this forum. Bad language just isn't neccessary, especially in a professional setting like this. It's not just that, though. I was rude, I acted like a jerk, and I ended up derailing this forum way off topic with my insults and Christian speeches. It's just that I'm a very spiritual person, and I pray to God every day, but this is SmashWiki, not ChristWiki, so I apologize for bashing Olimar and acting so selfish. I usually don't act this way, but that's no excuse. I wasn't myself, but I'm not as grumpy now as I have been, so I saw this as a good day to clear things up. I also apologize for personal attacks towards 92.13.100.161 and anyone else I may have offended. I even apologize to Jigglypuff is God. We've been through a lot of tough times, starting with the "Tier List" page. It's completely understandable if you hate me, but I forgive you, and I hope we can move on and forget about this. To make up for all this, I would give useful advice, but I don't play as Olimar, so I unfortunately can't do that. If I mained Olimar, though, I'd post strategies in a heartbeat. I'm just sorry for everything, and I'll try to be more considerate in the future. - GalaxiaD 21:28, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Stop haunting me with my past! I realize the stuff I said here was very rude and nasty, but that doesn't mean you have to rub it in by bringing it all back! Do you think this is funny?! Stop playing these sick mind games with me! How am I supposed to leave my past behind me if you keep bringing it back to haunt me?! Pikamander and Logan, forgive me if this sounds too familiar to Chris Crocker, but LEAVE THIS FORUM ALONE!!! - GalaxiaD (talk) 20:04, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
No one's trying to play sick mind games, GD. You just don't get to delete the forum. I think people aren't being malicious and cruel - I certainly am not. You said some pretty mean things, but you owned up to it and said you were sorry. I can now be respectful to you, because you realized you had to to back down. That took a lot of strength of character and everyone should be able to respect that. Putting this back doesn't mean that we can't all move on. That being said, you are a bad person for not liking Olimar and you will burn after the final judgement. (Just a joke :P) Runer5h (talk) 00:08, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Runer5h
Your joke actually made me laugh a little, though I'm not sure why. Burning after Final Judgment wouldn't be too good, to say the least. LOL. Anyway, I guess I now understand the point of keeping this stuff here. Sorry about spazzing out earlier. It's just that I don't want newer users to see the stuff I said here and then assume that that's my actual personality. I'm nothing like that. I'm a very easy-going and friendly person, and I've stayed that way ever since this incident. The new me is a lot better, and I vow to never go back to being my old self ever again. - GalaxiaD (talk) 01:43, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Back to the topic, much?
Hello, I'm new to these forums, and at first I'm afraid to say I was rather dissapointed. I have read the entire page and am glad that people have settled their differences and things are hopefully going to work out O.K.
However! This topic was made for a reason!
To discuss Olimar, pikmin and related stratergies.
I myself joint-main Olimar (I main others as well). Most comments I could give have already been stated, but I am able to add a few points onto this discussion to give everyone some information they may not have known.
- A pikmin following Olimar is invincible, unless he dies.
- Pikmin die without Olimar after a certain period of time.
- The age of a pikmin (The state of its headpiece - Leaf -> Bud -> Flower) makes very little, if any difference to a pikmins attacks. Don't be afraid to let them take the blow from attacks because you can just pluck more.
- You can pluck 6 pikmin in one second!
- Olimars final smash is (I think) the only one which is completely 100% avoidable. (Not even the most advanced players of a character with amazing recovery can avoid all the bulborbs.) A tip for this is, try to lure the opponents into the centre, activate the final smash, embed them in the ground and even if they mash the buttons like mad they will only have a second or two to escape the crash, and you should catch them in the blow. Hopefully.
Anyways, that's all I have to say, and I can beat a level 9. Therefore I am a god.

Haha! sarcasm! Well, I think Olimar is a character you have to practice. But he seems to be powerful enough, that he can handle his own. His attacks of incredible range, making him weak to characters with reflect, but good for getting control of the battle, or just not being pummeled. I usually use him as a juggle and his up a's are fantastic, both aerial and ground. He has my favorite smash and is great at getting the smash ball. He has poor recovery, anyone could grab on to a ledge to stop it. I think his moves get stale fast. Quite frankley, he doesnt stand a chance in any area with water. I hope I helped--Kill Maim (talk) 11:31, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
