Tournament history
This marked Hungrybox's first Melee major in his 90-day Ultimate "detox," on Day 26 from the start of the tournament. Despite the detox, it marked his worst performance at a major in a decade, as he placed 9th after losing to Mang0 2-3 and moky 1-3, the first time since The Big House 4 in October 2014 where he failed to make top 8 at a major (or ranked event) and ending his near-10 year streak.
Despite a shaky start earlier in bracket against Egg$ and Aklo (going down 0-2 before reverse 3-0ing both players), Mang0 won the tournament without dropping a set. Mang0 was able to defeat Zain 3-0, and Cody Schwab 3-1 and 3-0. Not only did Mang0 snap an eleven set losing streak against Zain since Ludwig Smash Invitational, it marked his first major victory since Mainstage 2022 in December 2022. This also broke a 343-day streak of Zain and Cody Schwab winning every Melee major in which at least one of them attended, 23 days shy of a full year.
