Ludwig Ahgren Championship Series 5 is an upcoming Super Smash Bros. Melee invitational tournament held from July 7th-9th, 2023 by YouTube streamer Ludwig. It will be the first tournament in the series to be held in-person, being in Covina, California. 12 players were directly invited to tournament, and 4 more players will qualify from an open Last Chance Qualifier on July 7th. After the final 16 players are decided, a group stage will be held on July 8th-9th, followed by the Top 8 final bracket on July 9th. The prize pool is $50,001, which is the ninth largest prize pool for a Melee tournament.

Format

There will be Swiss system pools and a final bracket. 12 directly invited players and 4 players qualifying through the Last Chance Qualifier will make up 16 players in total. 8 players will move on from the group stage to play in the final bracket. All sets at the event will best of 5, in both Last Chance Qualifier and main singles.[1]

The Last Chance Qualifier on July 7th will be a double-elimination bracket, with the Top 4 players qualifying for the main singles event. The Last Chance Qualifier will be played up until Top 4, and will not play out the Top 4 bracket.[2] The players that qualify through the Last Chance Qualifier will receive full reimbursement for their flight and accommodations.[3] Swiss pools Rounds 1-3 will be played on July 8th, and Rounds 4-5 will be played on July 9th. The Top 8 final bracket will be played to completion on July 9th.
