Thwomp
Thwomp is a species of Mario enemy that has served as an obstacle for Mario to avoid in many of his games since Super Mario Bros. 3. It has made cameo appearances in the Smash Bros. series.
Character description
Thwomps, at least when they were first introduced, look like large stone cubes with faces and spikes along their vertical perimeter. They typically operate as traps under Bowser's employ and wait suspended in midair until when Mario goes into a Thwomp's general vicinity, during which a Thwomp will crash down to the ground with swift force in an attempt to crush Mario. Thwomps are large, but there is a small, nimbler variant called a Thwimp which bounces around.
In Super Smash Bros. Melee
The type of large Thwomp that appears in Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World makes a cameo appearance in this game.
As a trophy
The large Thwomp appears in Melee as one of the many trophies that can be collected like "normal" trophies, meaning that it can be found sooner or later through the Trophy Lottery and/or playing the single player Regular Matches:
- Thwomp
- Thwomps spend most of their time suspended in midair, waiting. When Mario passes below, they crash down with amazing speed. As you may guess from their appearance, they're heavy and solid enough to make any attack on them futile. Small ones are called Thwimps: despite their weight, they often form groups and bounce around. (Super Mario Bros. 3 02/90)
