All-Out Attack (総攻撃, Joint Raid) is Joker's Final Smash in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Overview
When the Final Smash is used, Joker will rush forward, and any opponents hit during the initial rush will be placed in the attack. The Final Smash starts by showing Joker, along with three of his fellow Phantom Thieves (with one set being Ann Takamaki, Ryuji Sakamoto, Morgana and Futaba Sakura as navigator, and the other set being Makoto Niijima, Yusuke Kitagawa, Haru Okumura and Morgana as navigator; the selection is random) in silhouetted form jumping upwards, before a splash screen of all four of them appears. The four of them then rush the enemy at speeds that cause them to turn into blurs, while either Futaba Sakura or Morgana comment on the onslaught depnding of the team. When the attack finishes, Joker lands in front of the opponents, and another splash screen appears with Joker fixing his glove while "The Show's Over" appears next to him. Any opponents caught in the attack are then sent flying (or instantly KOed if they are at 115% or higher by the end of the move (depends on Joker's attack stat, spirits can alter this)); however, if the Final Smash instantly KOing the opponent ends the match, the match will be ended on the splash screen without returning to gameplay, and this will persist into the victory screen. This can only happen in a Stock or Stamina mode match.
During the entire Final Smash, the game cannot be paused; it is the only attack in the game with such a distinction.
If Joker misses the initial rush forward, the player can push the control stick backwards to rush backwards and attempt to catch opponents again.
Origin
All-Out Attacks are staples of the Persona series, since its introduction in Persona 3. When a player knocks down every enemy in the current battle (whether that be from getting critical hits, from exploiting weaknesses or by the enemy missing with a physical attack), they are then given the option to perform an All-Out Attack, where every currently active party member attacks the opponent relentlessly, dealing significant physical almighty damage that cannot be voided, repelled, or absorbed.
All-Out Attack is nearly identical to the same move in Persona 5, including the splash screens. In Persona 5, the defeated opponents are seen gushing high-pressure blood but in Ultimate, this is replaced with sparkles likely to better fit the game's rating. In Persona 5, the splash screen at the end of the attack, called the Finishing Touch, is only activated when the attack defeats every enemy left in the battle, but in Ultimate, it activates with every use of the Final Smash, regardless of if it KOs an opponent or not.
Trivia
- Joker is currently the only character to possess a Final Smash that can cut straight to the results screen.
- All-Out Attack is currently the only Final Smash to incorporate pre-rendered cinematics, those being the cut-ins for both sets of Phantom Thieves.
- All-Out Attack is the only Final Smash so far that removes the damage percentages during its duration.
