How does this need to be cleaned? (Wolf O'Donnell (talk · contributions) 06:37, 6 October 2008 (UTC))

"Placeholder clips" claim

In the SSB4 section there is a disclaimer under certain characters that seems to imply that the voice clips we have heard in gameplay so far for them are not going to be the ones used in the final game. This seems incredibly unlikely to me and has no source, so I really think it needs to be removed. It also boasts a few inconsistencies. We haven't heard Sean Schemmel as Lucario in any footage for the game, and since he didn't voice him in Brawl, whatever audio exists would have to be new. So why would it be re-recorded? This also applies to Fox and Pit's new voice clips that can be heard in E3 footage. There is also a huge error here regarding Marth's voice actor. Listening to audio reveals that Marth has the same voice clips that have been in use since Melee, yet we now have the claim that Spike Spencer, who voiced the character in a OVA from 1996, is now providing the voice. usually I would be saying this we simply need to wait until the game is out to add the credits proper, but this claim is seriously damaging the accuracy of this article and needs to either be validated through evidence or removed. Mr. Mittens (talk) 17:06, 31 August 2014 (EDT)

The voice clips we heard in the demos have mostly been recycled from Brawl (listen to Bowser's, Mario's, and Link's voices carefully in gameplay). Therefore, the information should stay because it's a much safer bet, especially considering that there's no way to know for sure what is and isn't final until the game is actually released (it's also more likely that those recycled voices will be replaced, but simply saying "not final", again, is safer use of words). Sean Schemmel confirmed on Twitter that he will be voicing Lucario in SSB4. Fox's "new" voice is Japanese, and he's bound to get an English one in the North American and PAL releases. Pit's, Sonic's, and Kirby's voices were all probably worked on before anyone else's, which could explain their appearances in the demos. The info on Marth can be removed since there isn't a confirmation (and it is thus speculation). Blue Ninjakoopa 17:49, 31 August 2014 (EDT)
I never questioned whether or not Schemmel was appearing in the game, but I was questioning why his presence in the game was listed as "placeholder". Fox's voice is also not Japanese. I've heard plenty of clips of him speaking in English, and it does sound like his 643D actor, so that shouldn't be labelled as placeholder eoither because it's brand new audio. I will be editing the Marth section and changing the phrasing if the note to be more accurate to what it was supposed to imply. The phrasing seems to have caused confusion. Do what you like with it if it doesn't suit your fancy, but since the game'll be out real soon, I don't think it'll matter too much Mr. Mittens (talk) 00:39, 1 September 2014 (EDT)

Voice Cast

Here's the real full cast of actors for the 3DS!

Sign your posts with four tildes (~), please. Anyway, certain characters on the list aren't even in the game, so I don't think that their list is entirely accurate yet. ScizorSteelix 11:26, 13 September 2014 (EDT)

Ridley has a voice credit. This has likely just been put together by overzealous fans. Play the game and have a look at the credits. That's the real listing. Mr. Mittens (talk) 11:29, 13 September 2014 (EDT)

IMDb can often not be trusted for credits. Anyone can add to it with an account. The Solar Dragon 12:25, 13 September 2014 (EDT)

Wolf's voice in 3DS credits

Multiple times, I've seen Jay Ward pass by in the credits of Classic/All-Star Mode. Anyone have any idea what this could mean? Aidan the Gamer 16:15, 21 October 2014 (EDT)

A common theory is that the 3DS and Wii U versions share their credits list and that Orbital Gate will include a Smash Taunt appearance by Wolf. Miles (talk) 16:27, 21 October 2014 (EDT)
Interesting. Never heard that one before. Aidan the Gamer 16:32, 21 October 2014 (EDT)
It could also mean that Frigate Orpheon is coming back. After all, Ward did do the opening dialogue for the stage's music. Aidan the Gamer 16:38, 21 October 2014 (EDT)
I was doing research on him and he only ever plays Wolf and that introduction guy. So either Wolf was given a voice but was cut and the credit wasn't removed, Wolf will appear in the Wii U version, the Frigate Orpheon's music (and possibly the stage) will appear, or DLC. :P ---Previously unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 16:42, 21 October 2014 (EDT)
All we can really do at this point is guess. I dunno about DLC, really. I mean, stages and/or modes, sure, but characters as DLC would put many people at a disadvantage. Aidan the Gamer 16:48, 21 October 2014 (EDT)
There's also the possibility he's voicing someone else. Voice actors don't always have to be shackled to a specific role, you know. :P

Well, his name doesn't show up on this page's Smash 4 list, so I dunno about that one. Aidan the Gamer 16:58, 21 October 2014 (EDT)
I doubt they'd throw him into a new role specifically for Smash. Could someone Tweet him or something? Does he have a Twitter? ---Previously unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 16:59, 21 October 2014 (EDT)

Two things

  1. Why does Julie Parker have no character assigned to her? Isn't she Viridi's voice?
  2. Why is ROB 64 on here? Does he have a specific role that I am unaware of?

I'm not mad, I'm just curious. Can't have random shit being thrown around. Aidan the Gamer 10:52, 18 November 2014 (EST)

Julie Parker isn't credited in the Wii U version, so no one knows who voices Viridi. I'm guessing that's related somehow. Idk about ROB 64, maybe he's on Orbital Gate Assault. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 10:55, 18 November 2014 (EST)
Viridi is voiced by Hyden Walch, in the Wii U version, ROB 64 is voiced by the same person who voiced him in Star Fox 64 3D. It's simple. Nintenzilla (talk) 09:26, 15 May 2015 (EDT)

Reorganization

I feel that the tabular layout I put together here is easier to navigate than the current list. Do others agree? Miles (talk) 03:53, 19 April 2015 (EDT)

Bump? Miles (talk) 19:31, 30 April 2015 (EDT)
Last bump; if you want to make any comments or suggestions before I implement this table, now's the time to do so. Miles (talk) 13:53, 14 May 2015 (EDT)

Swirlix's ENVA

I found out that Swirlix's ENVA is actually known as Haven Burton. Jskylinegtr (talk) 03:59, 15 September 2015 (EDT)

Click the Bulbapedia link we already have on her, please. Miles (talk) 04:04, 15 September 2015 (EDT)

Reorginazation

I find it weird this is sorted by actors’ first name, instead of last name or by characters. Should it be reordered to be alphabetical by last name and a second section by character? I say by character, since many people will look for who voices a character, as opposed to the other way around for what character an actor does. --Meester Tweester (talk) 17:10, 26 June 2018 (EDT)

Suggestion

Why not reorganize the list, dividing it by language? Would look much better, instead of having all the names from all versions piled up. Or maybe, as it says in the section above, ordering by characters instead. WLord (talk) 01:52, 7 September 2018 (EDT)

I think this is an amazing idea. Aykrivwassup (talk) 11:00, 3 November 2018 (EDT)

Takashi Nagasako

You know what's odd? Takashi Nagasako, the current voice of Donkey Kong since 2004 and the voice of Gannondorf in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time reprised his role as the latter in Melee and Ultimate, but couldn't as the former in Ultimate. Juju1995 (talk) 19:57, March 28, 2019 (EDT)

I don't think this is proper use of SW:TALK, but I would like to point out that DK's always had gorilla grunts. Aidan, the Irish Rurouni 22:20, March 28, 2019 (EDT)

Steve Burton

"This is also the reason why Cloud's voice is not dubbed from Japanese. Cloud's current English voice actor, Steve Burton, is union-represented; his contract with Square Enix gives him exclusive rights to performing the character, and requires him to be credited."

is there an actual source for this? all of this information sounds highly fishy - how do we know the details of a contract between SE and Steve Burton, the "only he can voice Cloud" part is also highly suspect, and with Cloud apparently being recast for FFVII remake, it makes that part seem especially dubious. this smells like speculation to me --199.182.204.54 10:47, May 10, 2019 (EDT)
