Gender

Wouldn't the gender just be male for the dog since the tip says "The duck grabs the dog and carries him through the air. Once started, this move can't be stopped." ?

Well, it says the dog is presumably male, so it already technically says it's a male. Rtzxy Signature SmashBall.jpeg Smashing! 22:28, 2 October 2014 (EDT)

Duck Hunt Duo

I know the wiki follows the North American version more than the PAL version, but would it be reasonable to call this particular page "Duck Hunt Duo" rather than simply "Duck Hunt"? The Duck Hunt (SSB4) would stay where it is, which would be fine since other characters (like Fox) don't always keep their general page title synchronized with their character page titles when a different name is more appropriate for the general page. The trophy descriptions make it pretty clear that the North American version also considers them a duo. Doing so would also help with the issue of some many different things having the name "Duck Hunt". --SnorlaxMonster 01:28, 10 November 2014 (EST)

Consistency takes precedence. Miles (talk) 09:21, 10 November 2014 (EST)
Additionally, even the Europeon trailer refers to them as "Duck Hunt", and in Palutena's guidancs there refered to as a "trio" (which is most likely going to be changed in PAL regions), and since every other character uses their American name, it'll stay that way. The point is that there are several other characters that do not match their primary page name with their individual game appearance pages, so the "consistency" argument is not valid. If the character has a longer name that is used, it is acceptable to use that as their primary page's title. My argument is that the name used in-game in the American version of SSB is not the full name (like how Samus is used in SSB instead of Samus Aran). However, since the American version of Palutena's guidance contradicts the American Duck Hunt trophies, it may be better to leave it where it is. --SnorlaxMonster 05:12, 12 November 2014 (EST)

Interview

This was recently added to the page:

  • In an interview, the name of the dog was confirmed to be anonymous, and that he should just be referred to as "The Dog".

Does anyone know which interview this is and provide a source? If not, we should probably remove it. Nyargleblargle (Talk) 11:28, 13 April 2015 (EDT)

...I believe it was removed. Aidanzapunksignature.pngAidan, Master of Speed and AuraAidanzapunkSignaturesmall.PNG 11:39, 13 April 2015 (EDT)
Sorry, I was looking at the edits of an IP who was edit warring, and I forgot to check for the "current" label. Nyargleblargle (Talk) 12:08, 13 April 2015 (EDT)

Infobox picture

Can someone get an image of the Dog holding a pink and blue duck, since that's the duck that (usually) appears in Smash. I do happen to own the original Duck Hunt, but I can't take screenshots nor can I edit images, or even upload them to the wiki. It is not, however, hard to get a picture of it. The pink ducks are pretty common. 72.133.91.93 16:15, 16 November 2018 (EST)Blueflame105

Whenever the dog picks up the duck, the duck changes to the standard green-headed mallard color. PikaSamus (talk) 19:53, 25 November 2018 (EST)

Duck Hunt's fighter spirit features a piece of official art from somewhere? It's got the dog chasing two ducks. 96.48.239.44 19:27, 22 December 2018 (EST)

gender

definitely male for the duck. "Duck Hunt's duck has a colorful head that ends in a white ring, a colorful back, and colorful wings, and a white belly. That suggests it's a Silver Appleyard or Call Duck, both of which exhibit similar traits. Those particular duck breeds have gender dimorphism.

The males have colorful heads and bodies, while the females are pretty much just brown. Therefore, duck hunt's ducks are all male, and the duck in Smash follows suit." Pikachu210 (talk) 12:28, 21 January 2019 (EST)
