Forum:Hitbox image collections

Since having a separate discussion on every hitbox collection page is beyond unfeasible, this page was made for the discussion of the entire concept to take place. To be clear, the proposal is to delete the pages which hold a collection of hitbox images for specific characters.
Support
- Support They're incredibly difficult to maintain and cause lag on mobile. Also, they provide limited information compared to the information provided by the individual move pages. If they were to be kept, they would need a substantial revamp to update them with everything else. Theoretically this can be done with a ****ton of template transclusions, but there's no way around the lag issue when even viewing them. Also, in what situation would it be more useful to see every single one of a character's attacks, instead of pulling up a specific attack you wish to reference? DekZek 15:39, 30 November 2018 (EST)
- If they cause lag on mobile, there's an easy solution to that: don't visit them on mobile, nobody's forcing you to visit the page or anything, and they work perfectly fine on desktop. The purpose of the hitbox collections is to show the hitboxes, if people want detailed information we could simply link the move names column to the move subpages for a detailed breakdown, no complicated transclusions necessary. Finally, it's useful for exactly that purpose, for viewing all of the moves on a convenient page instead of having to manually pull up every single attack you want to see (surprisingly enough, many people want to see all of the hitboxes for their main, as they plan on using more than 1 move for the entire match :p). - The reason I am bringing up the transclusions is keeping the information up-to-date. As it currently stands, any edit on one would require an edit on another to make them contain the same information. DekZek 16:01, 30 November 2018 (EST)
- Not really. The only variable is the images, and they themselves are transclusions. Just reuoad them with the same name, no further action needed. Black Vulpine of the Furry Nation. Furries make the internets go! :3 16:03, 30 November 2018 (EST)
- ^ pretty much. There is no need to have separate information on this page if we streamline the process of getting from them to the relevant move subpages via links (an arduous task to employ I know, but I'd be happy to do it myself). Alex the Jigglypuff trainer 16:05, 30 November 2018 (EST)
- In that case, so long as someone also finds a way to link to them from another page (probably in Template:MvSubNavBase) in a way that doesn't look awkward to remove all of these pages being Orphaned (why I tagged them in the first place), I'll change to Neutral. Oppose
- Oppose, to say that the move subpages make these hitbox collections obsolete is frankly absurd. Generally speaking, when people want to see hitboxes for their main, they will try and find all hitboxes for their character, both for the sake of convenience and for making sure they don't miss any. A quick check on Google demonstrates this; searches like "Mario hitboxes smash 4" are far more likely to appear as search suggestions than searches like "Super Jump Punch hitbox smash 4", which is reflective of what people tend to look for, and the role of SmashWiki is to provide people with information on Super Smash Bros. content in a clear and organized manner. But beyond this, expecting people to have to manually go through multiple, or potentially all of, the move subpage for their character in order to view all of the moves they are interested in viewing hitboxes for is in my opinion simply a foolish idea. These pages very much do have a use, I know I certainly use them, and the example I gave above demonstrates that other people would also make use of them. So as a result I am strongly against the deletion of these pages. Alex the Jigglypuff trainer 14:48, 30 November 2018 (EST)
- Oppose, pretty much what Alex said. Having to go to every page is much too tedious and makes it difficult to compare hitboxes, which is what people are typically trying to do when looking at them. Spexx (talk) 15:30, 30 November 2018 (EST)
- It makes loads of sense to gather hitboxes in a single place alongside the individual pages about each move. In fact, we already have them for 64 and Melee - you want to delete those as well? Black Vulpine of the Furry Nation. Furries make the internets go! :3 15:32, 30 November 2018 (EST)
