Piplup (ポッチャマ, Pochama) is a fictional creature in the Pokémon media franchise.
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl
As a Poké Ball Pokémon
Piplup makes an appearance in Brawl. It uses its Surf attack to glide across the stage until it reaches a blast line or exceeds a time limit. Any character that gets caught in Piplup's surf will get washed away with it and will likely get KO'd while trapped, along with Piplup. The simpler the stage's terrain is, the more effective Piplup's Surf will be. Piplup can also be reflected. Its attack is essentially used the same way as Marill's attack from Melee. Sometimes Piplup will instantly use Surf.
Trophy information
- Piplup
- A Penguin Pokémon. It's one of the starter Pokémon received from Professor Rowan when the player departs from the Sinnoh region. It's a Water type, so it's strong versus Rock and Ground types. It's very cute but filled with pride–it hates to accept food from people. When it levels up, it evolves into Prinplup.

Trophy information
Piplup's trophy is part of the Pokémon Diamond & Pokémon Pearl Trophy Box.
- Piplup
- You wouldn't think it from its adorable exterior, but this Pokémon is very proud and often won't listen to its Trainer. When it walks on land, it waddles and even falls over sometimes, all in a suitably cute way, but once it's in the water you'll see its true potential. It's a skilled swimmer and can dive for over ten minutes at a time to hunt.

Origin
[[|thumb|150px|Piplup's official artwork from Pokémon Platinum.]] Piplup is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation IV, and along with Chimchar and Turtwig it is one of the starter Pokémon of the Sinnoh region. It evolves into Prinplup at level 16, which evolves into Empoleon at level 36.
Surf is a special Water-type move with 90 (95 before Generation VI) base power and 100% accuracy which hits every Pokémon adjacent to the user, including allies. It was HM03 in every game prior to Generation VII, and it was always required to fully complete them. Like most other Water-type Pokémon, Piplup can learn it with HM03.
