The Kururin universe (くるりん, Kururin) is a series of puzzle games developed by Eighting and published by Nintendo.

Franchise Description

The original game in the series, Kuru Kuru Kururin was first revealed at Space World 2000. The game released on Japan on March 21, 2001 and in Europe & Australia on June 22, 2001 as a Game Boy Advance launch title. The game did not officially release in North America until February 11, 2016 on Wii U Virtual Console. The game involves the player piloting a constantly moving Helirin, rotating and repositioning it so it does not crash into walls or other obstacles. A sequel titled Kururin Paradise released for the GBA exclusively in Japan on December 6, 2002. Interestingly, the game was on display at E3 2002, the first time the series made an appearance in North America, despite never actually releasing there. Another sequel, titled Kururin Squash!, released on October 14, 2004 for GameCube. This is the first time the series appeared on a home console, and subsequently the first to use 3D polygonal graphics. Kuru Kuru Kururin was rereleased in February 2023 via Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee

The series has one trophy in Melee, where "Helirin" is misromanized as "Heririn".

Trophy

Heririn

Kururin sets off in his specialized helicopter to rescue his siblings who have lost their way somewhere among ten worlds. The helicopter is fitted with an enormous blade, which propels the machine forward by slowly rotating. The mazes that Kururin must navigate are narrow and filled with all kinds of strange obstacles.

Assist Trophy

Helirin appears as an Assist Trophy in Brawl. When summoned, Helirin will move in similar fashion to how it did within its games, in that it will rotate sideways. Helirin acts as a solid platform and can be stood on.

Trophies

Helirin

A unique helicopter that flies with long, slowly rotating wings. If the wings strike walls or obstacles, the Helirin takes damage and loses hearts. The wings normally spin clockwise, but the rotation can be reversed by touching springs. There are many areas that require this technique. The Helirin can be customized by picking up and using a variety of items.
