A Footstool Jump is a special move added in Brawl which any character can perform. To do a Footstool Jump, one simply needs to land on another character's head. The jumper will then be propelled upward. This is most likely derived from the Mario games, where Mario needed to land on the Goomba's heads in order to defeat them.

Yoshi lands on Wario's head.

The Footstool Jump is a new technique in SSBB. When a character is directly above another character, they can press the jump button to bounce off of the character's head, similar to Mario jumping on a Goomba. When used in midair, it also functions as a Meteor Smash. It does no damage, and can be used up to four times in succession, with each jump resulting in approximately half the rebound.

The move is very similar to one seen in Kirby Super Star and in Kirby And The Amazing Mirror, where one player is able to get a large jump by doing so off of their partner's or another Kirby's head.
