'''Flipper''', which has not been seen since the early days of the NES, the Flipper appeared as a troublesome obstacle in ''Balloon Fight'', and it's no less annoying in Super Smash Bros Melee. Once thrown, the Flipper hangs suspended in the air and bounces any character who comes into contact with it, even the character who initially threw it. The Flipper does 11 percent damage when thrown normally or thrown with a Strong move, 13 percent with a Smash throw, and 1 percent for each subsequent hit after it's set up.

The '''Flipper''' is an [[item]] in [[SSBM]] that can be thrown, originating from the [[Balloon Fight]] game. After it travels a certain distance, it stops in mid-air.* When hit, it spins either slowly or violently (depending on either the force of contact or the strength of the attack), causing damage from contact with it. These can be placed next to each other to cause an opponent to get stuck between them, or they can be placed at integral parts of the stage, such as ledges or in between walls. This will block your opponent from recovering, or it will not allow them to pass through certain points. The downfalls to this item are that it is easily avoidable and only lasts a few seconds.

<nowiki>*</nowiki>When thrown on moving stages ([[Big Blue]], [[Rainbow Cruise]], [[Poké Floats]], etc.) the Flipper will become stationary and not move with the stage. This is best noted on Big Blue, where the Flipper hangs still for a split-second, then flies offscreen as the cars speed away from it.

Many people believe it replaced the [[Bumper]] in [[Super Smash Bros. Melee]]. This is due to the effect being almost the same, and the Bumper's absense in Super Smash Bros. Melee.

*Smash throwing it gives 11% damage

Flipper, which has not been seen since the early days of the NES, the Flipper appeared as a troublesome obstacle in Balloon Fight, and it's no less annoying in Super Smash Bros Melee.
