This article is about taunts in Super Smash Bros. Melee. For general information, see Taunt.

The following is a list of all taunts in Super Smash Bros. Melee. To perform a taunt in Melee, press up on the D-Pad of the Gamecube Controller.

Mario

  • Grows to a super-size, as if taking a Super Mushroom power-up, before shrinking again. This also increases his hurtbox. The size increase stacks with special matches and actual super mushrooms. During the taunt, Mario mimics the standing pose seen in the original Super Mario Bros.

Luigi

  • Crosses his arms behind his back and performs a small, shy kick. The kick can damage an opponent if it connects, acting as a meteor smash. However, its pitiful range and slow startup severely limits its effectiveness. It is similar to his pose when he loses a minigame in Mario Party 2.

Peach

  • Performs a spin, then poses and winks, saying "S-weet!"

Bowser

  • Throws his head back, spinning it in a circle, and roars.

Dr. Mario

  • Throws a pill up in the air along his arm, before catching it.

Yoshi

  • An update of his previous taunt, Yoshi simply faces the camera and jumps up and down whilst chanting.

Donkey Kong

  • Faces the camera and shrugs his shoulders, making a confused noise.

Link

  • Sheathes sword, places shield on back, lets out a chuckle, then brushes back his hair as if admiring his own handsomeness.

Zelda

  • Holds her hands together, as if in prayer.

Sheik

  • Performs a threatening pose with her right hand before his face, and snorts.

Ganondorf

  • Hovers in mid-air and spins before laughing menacingly.

Young Link

  • Takes out a bottle of Lon Lon Milk, drinks it, and then wipes his mouth while sighing. This is the longest taunt in Melee.

Samus

  • Holds her arm cannon upright.

Kirby

  • Waves and says "Hi!". The taunt's animation differs slightly, depending on what direction Kirby is facing.

Fox

  • Leans back and states "Come on!" (かかってこい!, Come at me!) whilst waving his hand. In the Japanese version of Melee, he may also say "Come on!" in English.

Falco

  • Spins on one foot, then poses with one of his arms/wings before him. In the Japanese version of Melee, he states 俺の獲物に手を出すな! (Get your hands off of my prey!) or 逃がすかよ! (You're running away!); in other versions, he merely chuckles.

Pikachu

  • Waves at the camera, yelling "Pika, Pika!" Starting in this game, it tilts its head to one side and then to another, waving one arm and then the other. In this game, the taunt has IASA frames, as it can be interrupted by any attack when Pikachu starts the second wave.

Jigglypuff

  • Spins around on one foot, then looks at the camera inflated, winking and saying "Jigglypuff!" (プリプリーン!)

Mewtwo

  • Crosses its arms and spins in mid-air, laughing sinisterly.

Pichu

  • Facing right: Lies on the ground and rolls around, chanting "Pichu!" Has IASA frames before Pichu gets up.
  • Facing left: Jumps up and down, chanting "Pichu!" Has IASA frames after the third jump.

Captain Falcon

  • Faces the camera, salutes and exclaims "Show me your moves!" This taunt is notable in Melee for being one of only two that has a different animation depending on whether the character is facing right or left; unlike in Brawl and Smash 4, both of Falcon's taunt animations will end at exactly the same time (both having 60 frames).

Ness

  • Faces the camera, nods and says "OK!"

Ice Climbers

  • Swing their hammers forward saying "Yo!" as their clothes sway to the wind.

Marth

  • Swings his sword around and says in Japanese: みんな、みていてくれ! ("Everyone, watch over me!").

Roy

  • Leans back and holds his sword in an attack position, shouting "Hee-ya!" as he does so.

Mr. Game & Watch

  • Rings his bell in front of him.
