Introduction to Super Smash Bros.
TheVictoryStar was first introduced to Super Smash Bros. through playing Brawl when he was 12, many years after the game had come out. At the time, he played the game rather casually. Though he had no knowledge of the competitive scene, he started making discoveries on his own about many of the characters and picked up Marth upon discovering the tipper mechanic in his moveset as well as his above-average mobility. (He has since dropped this main.) He also picked up Lucario because he found his aura mechanic interesting.

Around the age of 13, TheVictoryStar started looking into competitive Super Smash Bros. Upon discovering how barren Brawls tournament scene was in comparison to [[Super Smash Bros. He started learning more about Melee through YouTube channels such as Super Smash Academy and SSBM Tutorials. However, he had no access to the game itself but instead opted to keep this knowledge until he could obtain the game somehow.

In April of 2016, TheVictoryStar challenged a friend of his to a best-of-three set in Melee after boldly claiming that he could beat anyone within his school in Melee thanks to the knowledge he had amassed over the last two years. After one of TheVictoryStar's friends allowed him to borrow his GameCube to practice, he carried over his old main of Marth for similar reasons to why he initially picked him up in Brawl. His opponent used Fox. Thanks to his knowledge of the game as well as extensive research and practice of wavedashing and chaingrabbing with the character in the week preceding the match, TheVictoryStar won the set cleanly 2-0, both of which were three-stock wins.

After this, he downloaded the Dolphin emulator and has practiced both Melee and Brawl in his spare time. His initial Melee mains were Marth, Jigglypuff, and Falco. However, he eventually droppped both of these characters: the former because he wished to focus on more conventional characters, and the latter because he did not have ample time to learn the character as well as he liked. He has settled on learning Sheik as a second main while keeping a Peach and Fox as counterpick characters. However, he does occasionally use Jigglypuff in doubles.

Because many of his friends were much more familiar with Brawl, despite the fact that TheVictoryStar does not enjoy it as much as Melee or SSB4, he decided to learn the game. After extensive character experimentation, he settled on the characters Olimar and Meta Knight. He has also continued playing Lucario for both counterpicks and for nostalgia.

Once he obtained the DLC for SSB4, TheVictoryStar picked up Cloud as a main alongside Shulk. He also picked up Kirby due to his interesting combo game, but now only uses him as a secondary. He also picked up Bowser after the buffs in patch 1.1.3, though he has since quit him due to wanting to focus on higher-tier characters. Finally, after watching players such as Fatality and ZeRo play the character, he picked up Captain Falcon.

Biography

Origin of the name

TheVictoryStar originally received his tag as a competitive Pokémon player at age 13. His tag was a reference to the Pokémon Victini, which has an ability of the same name.

The name "Platonic" arises from an inside joke developed in his freshman year of high school. When some of his friends were teasing him for texting a girl late at night, he responded by saying that his relationship with her was purely platonic. Since his friends did not know the definition of the word, he proceeded to yell the definition of the word on the top of his lungs for added emphasis, followed by "put that on your wall with the rest of your posters." Ever since, the phrase "platonic, put it on a wall" was associated with TheVictoryStar, and "Platonic" became his secondary tag.
