Clone characters are playable characters that have movesets similar to or based on other characters within the same game. Creating a larger roster is usually the reason for the creation of clone characters but unique movesets are more desirable. Typically the clone's special moves will be the same except for visual differences and minor damage or effect changes. As of now, only unlockable characters in the Smash Bros. series have been considered clones.

In Melee, Luigi and Pichu are a unique case since, their side special moves are individual to them while the remainder of their special moveset mimicks Mario and Pikachu respectively.

Luigi is the only clone character to appear in Super Smash Bros.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Sakauri revealed (though unknown if official) that all clones will be decloned with new moves. However this may be untrue due to the fact that Lucas' moveset is almost identical to Ness' moveset in Melee.
