How To Perform (on Jungle Japes)
The only way to dislodge Mario from the box is to grab and throw him.
This glitch is performed by having Falco or Fox repeatedly grab and down throw the other character on the main platform of Jungle Japes. The thrown character must land directly in front of the hut, underneath the porch. After several down throws, the thrown character will be trapped in an "invisible box" with very odd properties.
*Unlike a character made "invisible" by a Cloaking Device, who is not completely invisible as edges can still be seen, the box is completely invisible, with nothing to suggest that it is there.
*The box is very slightly taller than the character trapped inside, but is the same width as the porch. The character cannot move out from underneath the porch in any way.
*The trapped character is the only character to experience the box. Falco/Fox is free to move normally, passing through the walls of the box as if it weren't there. The characters can still all do damage to each other, but only Falco/Fox can be KO'd while the glitch is in effect.
*The box does not have the normal solid scenery physics - the trapped character will not bounce off the "walls" or "ceiling" of the box when hit with a strong attack. However, the "ceiling" does function as such when the character attempts to jump, with the same animation as if they had hit a solid ceiling.
*In the second video, Box Glitch performed by Falco on Dr. Mario, between 1:51 and 1:55 Dr. Mario seems to float in the air while moving backwards. This is because the knockback from Falco's previous attack should have sent Dr. Mario high into the air, but the box prevented this. Instead, Dr. Mario moves through the air, along the ceiling of the box, with the same horizontal velocity that he would have had if the box weren't there, but with no vertical velocity, yet still waving his arms as if he was falling backwards towards the ground.

There is only one way to escape the Box Glitch - the trapped character must be grabbed and thrown. No other method works as the box cannot be passed by the trapped character in any way, so they cannot be KO'd or knocked out of the box.

The box glitch is a collision detection glitch found in Super Smash Bros. Melee. It apparently generates an invisible box that only affects one character, trapping that character until they are grabbed and thrown.

Requirements

The glitch must be performed by a human player using Fox or Falco. They must perform the glitch on Mario, Luigi, or Dr. Mario; this second participant may be human- or computer-controlled.

The glitch can be performed on any stage with a main center platform. Jungle Japes shall be used as an example.

Instructions (Jungle Japes)

For simplicity's sake, we shall assume that the glitch is being performed using Fox and Mario.

Bring Fox and Mario to the main platform on the level. Have Fox repeatedly grab and down throw Mario; Mario should land directly in front of the hut, below the small, elevated platform. After several down-throws, Mario will be trapped in an odd, invisible box.

The box will be completely and totally invisible (unlike characters masked with a Cloaking Device, who are still slightly visible). It will be very slightly taller than Mario, and it will be the same width as the small floating platform. Though Fox can move through the box as though it isn't even there, Mario cannot pass through it. Both characters can touch and damage each other, but Mario cannot be forced out of the box and thus he cannot be KO'd. Mario will not bounce off of the box when smashed; he will simply move along its boundaries. (If he attempts to jump, however, he will move as though he had jumped into an ordinary ceiling.)

The only way to dislodge Mario from the box is to grab and throw him.
