Pichu (ピチュー, Pichū) is a character from the Pokémon series, and is the younger (pre-evolved) form of main series mascot Pikachu. It evolves to Pikachu when it reaches certain level of happiness with its Trainer

Creature description

Pichu is a tiny electric mouse and the pre-evolved younger form of Pikachu. In the anime and Super Smash Bros. Melee it is inexperienced with its ability to handle electric attacks, so when it attacks with electricity it does damage to itself, but that never happened in-battles in the Pokémon main series.

As the pre-evolved form of Pikachu, is less powerful than his evolved counterpart, and it can't learn some moves tha Pikachu can learn. However, the only way to get a Pikachu with Volt Tackle is breeding a Pichu, so it can be speculated that the Melee's Pichu is the Brawl's Pikachu, this isn't clear or confirmed.

It is assumed that Pichu was included in Super Smash Bros. Melee, to promote the Generation II games (Gold, Silver, Crystal, Pokémon Stadium II.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee

As a playable character

Main article: Pichu (SSBM)

Pichu makes a playable appearance in this game, albeit as one of the weakest characters, but faster and slightly stronger than Pikachu. Melee is notably the only game that is true to Pichu's Pokédex description of harming itself with it's own electrical energy, whenever Pichu performs an attack that involves electricity, he takes a few percentage of damage. It is also the lightest character.

Trophies

Pichu has three collectable trophies, like the other 25 characters in Melee, its original trophy, the Smash Red trophy, and the Smash Blue trophy.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Pichu, along with Young Link, Roy, Dr. Mario and Mewtwo, does not return in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. However, one of Pikachu's outfits feature blue goggles very similar to the ones Pichu wore in Melee. Also, Pichu appears as a collectible trophy. While the other cut fighters have had data discovered in Brawl's code, Pichu is one of two characters, (alongside Young Link), to not be found in Brawl's data at all, suggesting he was never going to be in as a playable character, unless it was never partially programmed and it was planned to be programmed in later.
