This "real world place of origin" thing is a pretty questionable bit of trivia, since it runs into trouble with stuff like R.O.B., pre-retcon Mario, Luigi, and Donkey Kong, and the fact that several other series involve Earth in their continuities (are Pikmin from a "real world place"?) just complicates the whole thing out of relevance or interest.
