Franchise description
The game was one of the early games released for the Family Computer Disk System, and the second original title after The Legend of Zelda. Originally, the game was a Japan-only release for the Famicom. However, over 28 years after original release, the game was re-released worldwide through Virtual Console on the Nintendo 3DS.
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl
One of the music tracks from the game, titled Douchuumen (Nazo no Murasamejo) plays in the Mario Bros. stage. Takamaru appears as a sticker.
In Super Smash Bros. 4
Takamaru appears as an Assist Trophy in these games. He throws pinwheel knife rooks at opponents.
A medley of tracks from the game, The Mysterious Murasame Castle Medley, is a music option for Smash Run in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Duck Hunt in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
In an interview, Sakurai stated that Takamaru was originally planned as a playable character, but was ultimately made into an Assist Trophy due to lack of Worldwide Popularity.
