Falco Lombardi (ファルコ・ランバルディ, Faruko Ranbarudi) is an ace pilot in team Star Fox. In the Smash Bros. franchise, he appears as a secret character in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Brawl. He is unlocked by finishing the stadium event 100 Man Melee (in SSBB, by finishing the 100 Man Brawl) with any character. When a player successfully completes this without being KO'd, Falco appears as a challenger. The player must then defeat him and thus unlocking him. He is basically a clone of Fox McCloud, having the same special moves, but with different names.
In Melee, many players now prefer using Falco to Fox, for basic reasons. His jumping height has increased and, unlike Fox's, his Blaster makes opponents stop in their tracks momentarily when hit by them. His Down-A Move is an actual spike, while in comparison, Fox's Down-A still keeps opponents with him, and he possesses one of the more potent meteor smashes in the game in the form of his Down-A mid-air attack which will hurdle opponents at a severe downward angle, as opposed to Fox's attack, which is merely a multiple-hit rapid attack. Falco's Reflector also has the ability to launch enemies into the air, as opposed to the low, sideways trajectory Fox's reflector launches enemies. Falco's upward reflector can be used to link to a combo with the down-air spike attack, called "Pillaring".
In Brawl, some of his basic and special moves have been redone to make him less of a clone, including changing his multi-kick to a spinning attack. He also has the highest initial jump of all the characters in Brawl. He was confirmed to return in Brawl on the Smash Bros. website Feburary 20, 2008.[1]
