Lurchthorns (トツコツ, Totsukotsu) are enemies from Kid Icarus: Uprising.
In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS
As a stage hazard
A single Lurchthorn appears in the destroyed transformation of Reset Bomb Forest, where it slowly flies by near the bottom of the screen. It damages characters that make contact with it, but will not otherwise attack characters. In this role, it also cannot be damaged.
In Smash Run
Lurchthorns appear as durable, large enemies which slowly fly around, shooting projectiles from the segments of their body. Each segment can be destroyed independently, but destroying the head is the only way to defeat it.
Lurchthorns are also part of the enemy waves in the Kid Icarus version of the Vs. Enemy Team final battle.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's...some kind of giant fossilized fish. Lurchthorns fly around, shooting at anyone who strays too close. Each of its segments attacks separately, so the more it has, the more dangerous it is. To get rid of it quickly, take out the head—that'll kill off the entire Lurchthorn in one go!
Origin
Lurchthorns were introduced in Kid Icarus: Uprising as enemies affiliated with the Forces of Nature. They are capable of launching projectiles from their body segments, which can be destroyed individually leaving fishbone-like structures behind.
