Character pages

Here's my opinion on your character page list.

  1. Boo. This is debatable, but I'll agree with this due to it appearing as an item (though in Smash Tour only).
  2. Tom Nook. Eh, no. As a simple element in a Final Smash, I feel it's not really notable enough for its own page, and can just go on the Final Smash page instead.
  3. Peppy Hare, Krystal, Leon Powalski, Panther Caroso and ROB 64. Since we have pages for the characters in Snake's smash taunt, I would agree with this, but only slightly (though that's not to say I support it).
  4. Reshiram and Zekrom. Don't really know about this.
  5. Kamek. Yes.
  6. 5-Volt. Debatable. I'm not sure if it constitutes as a stage hazard or stage element. In the event of the former, yes; latter, no.
  7. Registeel. Again, don't know anything about this.
  8. Peckish Aristocrab. Same as above.
  9. Magnezone. Redirect this to Pokémon (universe) or something better.

What do you think? Rtzxy Reflect.jpg Reflect! 19:46, 17 December 2014 (EST)

My justifications are roughly as follows:
  • Boo makes it as a Smash Tour item with other appearances (trophies, background element).
  • Tom Nook makes it as a Final Smash element + background character
  • Star Fox characters make it in terms of voice-acted cameos, and consistency with Slippy and Snake's support team.
  • Reshiram, Zekrom, Kamek, 5-Volt, Registeel and the Aristocrab all make it as named entities whose actions directly affect the playing field. We already have many comparable pages (Dialga, Cresselia, Nabbit, Whispy Woods, etc.) and this would make that more consistent.
  • Magnezone is only a background element with no effect aside from its visual appearance, and otherwise only appears as a trophy. The other PS2 background Pokemon do not have their own articles.
Does that clarify things? Miles (talk) 20:18, 17 December 2014 (EST)
It does, and I agree with most of the list, the sole exception being Tom Nook. I don't feel a Final Smash element is notable enough for a separate page, as the info can just simply go on either the Animal Crossing (universe) page or the Final Smash page itself. The fact that you also mentioned background character also makes it unnotable. Rtzxy Reflect.jpg Reflect! 20:23, 17 December 2014 (EST)
I'll admit Nook is the most debatable one on there. For me what it came down to was the relevance of Chrom minus voice acting plus a background appearance. They both appear as FS elements, trophies, and in a newcomer trailer. Miles (talk) 20:37, 17 December 2014 (EST)
I forgot about Chrom. Hmmmm… I'm not so sure now… Rtzxy Reflect.jpg Reflect! 20:41, 17 December 2014 (EST)
For context, I made a separate Nabbit page because of his two distinct roles, stage hazard and Smash Tour event (and trophy), while giving Birdo and Dialga as examples and those have an even globally smaller role (just stage hazards + trophy). Reshiram, Zekrom, Registeel have pretty much the same role as Birdo and Dialga (relevant hazard + trophy), so if those two have separate pages I guess they all should. I support demoting Magnezone as it's the only purely background Pokémon with a separate page, I'd say just do as Snorunt, Electivire and the others and keep it as a disambiguation page. Actually, since List of Pokémon exists, I think it might be better to cut all those minor disambiguation pages and integrate their data (mostly links to the trophy/sticker pages and possibly Bulbapedia) in the list itself, unless it clashes with some greater site policy. --Menshay (talk) 12:00, 18 December 2014 (EST)
I think it's fine to have the little disambig pages for stuff like Snorunt, Electivire, etc. For me, anyway, I think adding pages on named stage elements that do more than just appear in the background visually would add a reasonable but not excessive number of pages while making a more clear distinction between what does and doesn't warrant a page. Of course, we'll still need to make a decision on whether Smash Tour element + trophy is noteworth (Plasm Wraith, Proto Man, etc.) Miles (talk) 12:30, 18 December 2014 (EST)

Recent release cutoff

How does January 6th (one month after the latest release date, a Tuesday about 1.5 weeks from this post) sound for the {{recent release}} cutoff? That would also be the day where we'd unsemiprotect stuff like SSB4 character pages. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Chilled 00:16, 26 December 2014 (EST)

Yes Miles (talk) 00:31, 26 December 2014 (EST)

Found something interesting while unprotecting this stuff: apparently the Peach, Jigglypuff, and R.O.B. pages were never protected in the first place, and nobody noticed. That tells me that keeping semiprotection up for character pages for this long might have been a bit overzealous. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Brass 11:59, 6 January 2015 (EST)

Music unlockables

Anybody have a good guide to which songs in SSBU are CD unlockables compared to those unlocked automatically with an unlockable stage? All I can find are lists of all the songs with no stages unlocked or all the songs with everything unlocked. Miles (talk) 19:06, 31 December 2014 (EST)

And I guess as a followup: do we care about the distinction between the two? The lists we have for Brawl seem to distinguish between songs unlocked with a stage as "Default" versus "Unlockable" if they're a CD afterwards. Miles (talk) 19:10, 31 December 2014 (EST)

Promote a deleted page?

If you don't mind me asking, why would you promote the page about 5-Volt? There's no point on promoting deleted pages. Smashworker101 (talk) 14:38, 25 January 2015 (EST)

Because the page's deletion broke what was more or less a consistent rule about what stage elements do and don't warrant pages, and I believe that page should be re-instated. Miles (talk) 14:41, 25 January 2015 (EST)
I taught it wasn't notable for its own page. Smashworker101 (talk) 14:47, 25 January 2015 (EST)
