Water Shuriken (みずしゅりけん, Mizushuriken) is Greninja's neutral special in Super Smash Bros. 4.
Overview
Water Shuriken starts charging when pressing the special button, and is thrown forward when the button is released. The more it is charged, the bigger, more powerful and slower it is, and when charged for a sufficient duration it hits multiple times while pushing the opponent back. Uncharged shurikens only hit once and appear to be reasonably spammable. Unlike most chargable projectiles, the charge of the move cannot be stored.
Origin
Water Shuriken is one of Greninja's two signature moves (the other being Mat Block, which must be taught by a Move Reminder), which it learns at level 36 (and again at level 75, should it not know it at the time). It is a physical, Water-type move of +1 priority, 15 base power, 100% accuracy, 20 PP, and the ability to hit 2 to 5 times per use.
Starting with Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Accelgor can also learn it, but it may require the help of the Move Reminder to do so, as it is the first move in its moveset, which is unlikely for it to have unless its level is lower than 4.
Customization
Special Move customization was added in Super Smash Bros. 4. These are the known variations:
- Stagnant Shuriken: Always hits multiple times, but remains in front of you.
- Shifting Shuriken: Fires one of two types of shuriken, depending on whether the button is tapped or held.
- Tap Button: Throws a shuriken that launches foes upward.
- Hold Button: Throws a shuriken that passes through foes.
