Captain Falcon is a playable character in the Brawl mod Project M. He was remade to be nearly identical to his Melee counterpart in terms of attack hitboxes and animations.

Overview

Bounty hunter, F-Zero Grand Prix champion, and Smash fan favorite Captain Falcon speeds into Project M, aiming to take first place even in the fighting ring!

In the transition from Melee to Brawl, the good Captain lost a lot of what made him such a beloved player choice, mostly due to the vastly different environment he was placed in. With the overall feel of Melee brought back for Project M, as well as a few minor tweaks, Falcon is revved up and ready to go with new found energy. This incarnation of Falcon plays very similarly to how he played in Melee, so go crazy and rush down with his assortment of good aerials and ground speed, and don't let the opponent out of your sight for one second. Although the Captain is fast, he has lost his title of the fastest runner in the game to none other than Sonic the Hedgehog, but in exchange he has a few new abilities that he didn't have in Melee.

Captain Falcon may not have finished well in Brawl, but in Project M he is primed to leave everyone else in the dust.

The Knee

His legendary Forward-Air, also known as the Knee, has been recharged to its former glory. Opponents left eating this powerful combo finisher will be shocked to say the least. Press Up-Taunt when a powerful Knee connects. We won't spoil the surprise, but suffice it to say that most Smashers will enjoy this particular easter egg.

Mobility

The addition of Dash Dancing, Wavedashing, and Moonwalking adds mobility options that he needed desperately in Brawl. Leave your opponent blinded as you run circles around them once again.

Grab Game

His great grab game from Melee is completely restored. Use Up/Down-Throw to set up combos and tech-chases, and at later percents finish them off with his devastating Knee for a fast kill befitting of a top racer!

Recovery

His recovery options have improved from his Melee incarnation. Not only does an aerial Falcon Kick refresh your second jump as in Melee, but his Falcon Dive can grab the ledge from higher up on his body and even his Raptor Boost can grab onto it now.

Attributes

Changes from Melee to PM

Captain Falcon was slightly buffed from Melee to Project M mostly due to some Brawl-based retained changes which increase his options.

  • Buff Neutral attack's Gentleman hit is now always separated from the rapid punches (just like in the PAL version of Melee). While there is still a big window of time where pressing the attack button results in the punches, it can be avoided by jab canceling.
  • Buff Aerial Raptor Boost now spikes foes and propels Captain Falcon with forward momentum if it lands, and can now grab the ledge. When used towards an edge from the ground, Captain Falcon now goes into the ending animation instead of instantly becoming helpless, allowing to grab the edge and come back to the stage.
  • Buff Landing lag for a successfully connected aerial Raptor Boost has been lowered to match that of a missed aerial Raptor Boost.
  • Buff Falcon Dive retains its vertical distance from Brawl, and the move's ledge grab sweetspot is now located higher on Falcon's body.
  • Buff Retains ability to grab foes on the ledge with Falcon Dive, like in Brawl. It also retains its damage from Brawl, dealing 17% damage (up from Melee's 15%).
  • Buff Falcon Kick is reversible, and has less endlag. Its main hitbox also lasts for much longer, making it an overall safer move to use at lower damages.
  • Buff Falcon Punch retains Brawl's faster startup.
  • Change Falcon Punch can be turned around up to four times, though this is predictable and has no real practical use for competitive play. Additionally, each reversal after the first one resets the move's starting animation, and like in Brawl, a reversed Falcon Punch deals slightly more damage and knockback.
  • Change Up and down taunts have switched positions. When using down taunt, he now also utters a soft "Yes!"
  • Change Connecting with a sweetspotted Knee Smash when a taunt input is held results in Falcon exclaiming "Yes!" (like with his Falcon Dive).
  • Change Kneeling victory pose is now more similar to Melee's version; he will thrust his chest forward and shout while briefly emitting fire.
