Megavitamins can be customized to two other moves, '''[[Fast Megavitamins]]''' and '''[[Big Megavitamins]]'''. As the name suggests, Fast Megavitamins travel faster than regular ones, whilst Big Megavitamins have a higher range and hit multiple times. These custom specials are similar to {{SSB4|Mario}}'s custom neutral specials, Fast Fireball and Fire Orb.

...[Dr. Mario's] Megavitamins pack a bit more punch than Mario's Fireballs. The capsules travel on a unique trajectory and make a distinct sound on impact.
—Dr. Mario's trophy description in Melee

Megavitamins appear as Dr. Mario's neutral special move in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. 4.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee

Megavitamins are similar to Mario's Fireballs in that they are a medium-short-ranged projectile that bounces along the ground. However, they bounce higher, fall faster, do more damage (8%), and have distinctive sound effects from the original Dr. Mario upon firing, bouncing, and hitting; despite being a physical pill as opposed to a ball of flame, they can still be absorbed. They are also used in Dr. Mario's taunt in Melee, in which he tosses a non damaging Megavitamin up and catches it. The colour of each Megavitamin produced (each half can be red, yellow, or blue) is random and has no gameplay effect.

Trophy description

The Megavitamins trophy in Melee.
Megavitamins
Megavitamins come in six color combinations of red, blue and yellow. Dr. Mario uses these capsules by tossing them into contaminated bottles to destroy viruses. The origin of these wonder pills is a mystery, but the most likely theory is that they're the result of Dr. Mario's lifelong efforts to find a cure for the common cold.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl

A Megavitamin appears as a sticker in Brawl, under the name 'Capsule'.

Megavitamins return in Super Smash Bros. 4. They have been given a major damage nerf, only dealing 4% damage, but otherwise, remain relatively unchanged.

Customization

Megavitamins can be customized to two other moves, Fast Megavitamins and Big Megavitamins. As the name suggests, Fast Megavitamins travel faster than regular ones, whilst Big Megavitamins have a higher range and hit multiple times. These custom specials are similar to Mario's custom neutral specials, Fast Fireball and Fire Orb.

Origin

In Dr. Mario, these were used to eliminate viruses. When the player lines up four vitamins and/or viruses of the same colour, the vitamins and the viruses are destroyed.

Trivia

  • In Melee, the extra Dr. Mario sound effect produced on hitting an enemy is in addition to a standard impact sound (specifically, one the same type as a Koopa Shell). However, Kirby does not manage to copy the extra sound effect; as a result his Megavitamins only produce the shell noise on contact.
