Origin
The Poltergust 5000 debuted in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, where it was an upgrade of the Poltergust 3000 that was used in Luigi's Mansion for the Gamecube. It was found by Luigi in the Gloomy Manor inside a car. Luigi also needed to find the Strobulb and the Dark-Light to help him on his quest.
