Meta Knight in Project M and Project+ | |
---|---|
Universe | Kirby |
Base game appearance | Brawl |
Alternate costume | Concept Art Meta Knight |
Meta Knight is a playable character in the Brawl mod Project M.
Attributes
Changes from Brawl to PM
Meta Knight has received both buffs and nerfs, but was heavily nerfed overall, with many of his undesirable and overwhelming traits removed, but some newer, fairer options given.
- Last hit of neutral attack has stronger knockback.
- Down tilt has better usage as an attack, dealing 7% damage (3% more) with decent vertical knockback if sweetspotted.
- Last hit of forward aerial has weaker knockback, which allows much easier wall of pain combos under Project M's physics.
- Back aerial is now a single swipe that deals 14% damage and has high KO potential, making it a more potent edgeguarding tool than his previous back aerial.
- Glide attack does slightly more damage.
- Down throw sends opponents on a more horizontal angle, allowing easier tech-chases from it.
- Drill Rush was made into a more combo-orientated move: it propels forward faster and its hits link better, having more utility in combos.
- When using Dimensional Cape, flicking the C-stick before teleporting will perform a quick slash, dealing 14% damage. Additionally, if Meta Knight decides not to attack with the move, he doesn't fall helpless, allowing to dodge attacks in midair and then quickly use aerials afterwards.
- The new physics, as well as the re-introduction of wavedashing and L-canceling, increase the pace of many characters' playstyles, allowing most of the cast to overcome Meta Knight's speed and mobility, which was dominating in Brawl. Although Meta Knight also receives these gifts, their effects on his metagame are extremely small.
- Has four midair jumps, rather than five.
- Along with Pit and Charizard, Meta Knight can no longer glide with the jump button, though unlike these characters, who received a new special move that allows them to glide, Meta Knight only posseses his Shuttle Loop glide, significantly shortening his recovery.
- Neutral attack can no longer be held.
- Down tilt's interruptibility frames occur slower.
- Neutral aerial's sourspot can no longer link with the sweetspot.
- Up aerial, though still having juggling potential, now has somewhat more overall lag, and it cannot be used repeatedly while jumping and rising unlike in Brawl.
- Up smash links worse than in Brawl; the three hits can connect properly only against opponents close enough to Meta Knight, or else it's easy to DI out of due to the reduced amount of freeze frames.
- Down throw kicks less times, dealing less damage.
- Mach Tornado's acceleration, deceleration and duration decreased.
- Last hit of Drill Rush has weaker knockback, and the attack's angling capacities were reduced.
- Shuttle Loop has less range.
- Meta Knight can no longer perform the Infinite Dimensional Cape.
- Meta Knight becomes vunerable to the grab release glitch if he uses Dimensional Cape without the attack.
- Sword trails are blue rather than white/yellow.
- Down aerial has changed into a semi-meteor attack where Meta Knight falls while thrusting his sword downward, nearly identical in animation to a similar attack in Kirby's Return to Dream Land. While Meta Knight is falling, the attack hits consecutively downwards with weak knockback, dealing 1% damage per hit and 6% upon landing with vertical and powerful base knockback. He cannot grab ledges with it, but can move slightly left or right before or while using it. It has much less offstage utility than his previous down aerial, but is a good combo starter on-stage.
- Shuttle Loop is now more of a vertical finisher, and at low percentages it can link into the glide attack.
Concept Art Meta Knight
Concept Art Meta Knight is Meta Knight's alternate costume in Project M. It is based on early concept art of the character seen in the collectible book that came with Kirby's Dream Collection: Special Edition.
