Forums: Index Smash Arena

SmashArena.png

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome, editors and users, to the Smash Arena! Each week this forum hosts a tussle between two characters, items, stages or anything else from the Super Smash Bros. series! The winner gets, well, nothing. It's more of a poll but functionally, this is a popularity contest. You may vote for your favorite or who you think would win in an competition between the two combatants that round. No, you don't have to vote for the character with strength & power, or the stage considered more "fair", or the combatant with the most fans - just vote if you are a total fanboy of the participant. So what are you waiting for? Get voting! Remember, you don't have to have an account to vote! Though new requests for fights can no longer be made, voting on already existing requests can be done here.

The Rules

  1. When voting, you can give a brief comment on why you voted the way you did, or you can just leave your signature. Long explanations for your vote are discouraged, as they are unnecessary (a vote is worth the same regardless of its reasoning), and they inflate the size of an already large page.
  2. You can vote only once. Any multiple votes will be removed.
  3. Put a # before your vote to facilitate the vote counting.
  4. Type ~~~~ after your vote to sign it, whether you are logged in or not. Using the wrong number of "~"s counts as not signing - your signature must have both your signature itself and the time.
  5. There is a line in each section consisting of "DO NOT ADD COMMENTS OR EDIT ANYTHING BELOW THIS LINE". You are to follow this rule; do not just type your vote at the bottom of the editing window. Not following this rule results in your vote being displayed in the wrong place.
  6. Put your vote below other votes; that is, so the votes are in chronological order.
  7. You may change or remove your vote at any time. To do this you must remove your old vote in its entirety; this is an exception to the "never remove comments" rule.
  8. You may vote only in the current fight; all previous fights are closed.
  9. Do not leave a space between your comment and the ones above it (and/or below it). Extra spacing results in the list numbers becoming disjointed.
  10. While previewing an edit of a single section, you will see loose formatting marks (such as a trailing |}). Do not alter or delete them; they are important to the page's construction and take effect only when the entire round is viewed.
  11. If there are multiple fights in a single round, try to make all your votes in a single edit.
  12. Any comments about the fight should be left in the comments section. The following kinds of comments are not allowed:
    • Comments relating to how close or one-sided a matchup is.
    • Comments about other users' opinions. You can point out that a user may have gotten a fact wrong, but you can't say things such as "That's not a good reason" or "But the other guy is better because X". Users can vote for any reason they want; trying to argue with someone's opinion generally has no positive outcome, in addition to simply inflating the comments section of an already large page.

If your vote is not added correctly - specifically, it breaks rules 3, 4, or 5 - you have a short amount of time to fix it (typically between fifteen minutes to an hour). After this time, it may be corrected and moved by any user to the Half-Votes section (adding the unsigned template if necessary), and it will count as half a vote. Your vote will also be considered a half-vote if your edit causes someone else's valid vote to break one of these rules. Attempting to move your vote out of the Half-Votes section may result in it being worth zero at an operator's discretion.

Multiple votes are not allowed; attempts to circumvent this with sockpuppets will result in your vote being discounted entirely, and is a blockable offense. Probated users who attempt to circumvent their probation with sockpuppets are also committing a blockable offense and will have their vote discounted. Remember that admins have access to CheckUser to check the IPs of any user, and will use it when sockpuppetry is suspected.

Intentional half-votes undermine the intent of the half-vote system as a way to punish voters for voting incorrectly. It is legal to want a vote to be worth half, but it is very heavily discouraged, and you must state in your vote you want it to be worth half. If you put your vote in the half-votes section without stating reasons why you want it there, it is worth zero and may be deleted by any user. You may replace it later should you do it correctly.

Above all, remember that voting in the Smash Arena is a privilege, not a right. In the vein of what SmashWiki is not, you are expected to at least attempt reasonable contributions to the wiki if you wish to retain your privilege to participate.

Counting KOs or limited lives - which form of the game has the bigger following around here?

Votes for Time

  1. I changed my mind. While I prefer stock matches, I want this to get at least one vote.71.105.121.171 11:12, 1 June 2013 (EDT)
  2. I've been playing With Anyone a lot lately. JamesJH-Heartless.pngHeart 08:44, 2 June 2013 (EDT)
  3. In some ways you can stall in stock too, if its more than just one-on-one you can hide on the sides and let the other players finish each other off. If you're good enough at this, you can win the match with full lives and only one ko.71.51.149.139 08:37, 4 June 2013 (EDT)

Votes for Stock

  1. I always do this mode and I rarely do time. Plus, stock is the mode of what competitive tournaments follow too. Dots MewtwoMS.png The Keyboard 00:02, 1 June 2013 (EDT)
  2. --HavocReaper48 00:10, 1 June 2013 (EDT)
  3. Time is boring for me because it encourages stalling. Mr. AnonAnon.pngtalk 00:19, 1 June 2013 (EDT)
  4. DoctorPain99DP99Majora.png 00:43, 1 June 2013 (EDT)
  5. It's the only viable mode for competitive play. And even for casual play it works best, with what Anon stated and for encouraging people to go after high damaged opponents to get the easy KO points. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 01:04, 1 June 2013 (EDT)
  6. What OT said.--BrianDon't try me!Falco.gif 01:14, 1 June 2013 (EDT)
  7. Stock is the only mode I play. (Except for Coin, since you need that to get some trophies.) 84.92.35.200 07:46, 1 June 2013 (EDT)
  8. I can't believe Wi-Fi doesn't have stock battles with time limits. Awesome Cardinal 2000 08:06, 1 June 2013 (EDT)
  9. This took me no time to decide. That's right, my new stock of puns just came in. Toast Wii U Logo Transparent.pngltimatumTransparent Swadloon.png 09:10, 1 June 2013 (EDT)
  10. Stock is way better because you can set it as many as you want and can even have a time stock match to to me time is useless. RoyalRapids (talk) 10:49, 1 June 2013 (EDT)
  11. --69.244.174.29 09:53, 1 June 2013 (EDT)
  12. Stock matches are better too do with teams then time and stock matches can last however long you want, while time matches seem to be too quick. Baconlover9090 (talk) 11:21, 1 June 2013 (EDT)

  17. Whenever I play Time, it doesn't feel a fighting game for me. Terrible is May Flowers 09:08, 2 June 2013 (EDT)
  18. Have always preferred stock, time matches just don't seem intense enough to me. 110.174.90.69 093.I think stock is the best. TanookiTex:55, 2 June 2013 (EDT)

Well, that's annoying. I'd love another unanimous vote on Smash Arena, but someone who prefers Stock votes for Time. Sigh... Toast Wii U Logo Transparent.pngltimatumTransparent Swadloon.png 07:38, 2 June 2013 (EDT)

Round 189: Classic Mode vs. All-Star Mode

Classicmodeintro.png
Winner!!
Classic Mode
Classicmodeintro.png

12 to 8.5
All Star Rest Area Melee.png
These two modes involve a gauntlet of battles, one a series of regular and unique fights with a boss at the end, the other a progression of slightly easier bouts with no healing available. Which variety of challenge is preferred?

Votes for Classic Mode

  1. How can I not pick this, it has the word "classic" in it! Terrible is May Flowers 10:22, 25 May 2013 (EDT)
  2. Dots MewtwoMS.png The Kamehameha 10:44, 25 May 2013 (EDT)
  3. I've always liked fighting Master Hand at the end. Besides, Classic mode is more easy-going. 67.166.229.4 11:26, 25 May 2013 (EDT)
  4. I like Classic in both Melee and Brawl and All-Star in Melee, but Brawl made All-Star boring as hell due to fighting everyone in the exact same order every time and nothing unique about the last fight. 84.92.35.200 12:07, 25 May 2013 (EDT)
  5. Assuming this includes 64's 1P game, this is a more fun mode imo. Mr. AnonAnon.pngtalk 14:34, 25 May 2013 (EDT)
  6. Alright, our first gameplay mode battle. I pick this one because it doesn't get as repetitive when you try to clear the mode as every character, it isn't as time-consuming, and I find the final battle to be much more epic than a match with another playable character.71.105.121.171 19:08, 25 May 2013 (EDT)
  7. I prefer the randomness of Classic Mode, I'd rather fight random characters rather than fighting characters in a pre-determined order. 110.174.90.69 10:22, 26 May 2013 (EDT)
  8. Since the melee pictures are shown, I'll vote here. I personally detest Brawl Classic, though. DoctorPain99DP99Majora.png 13:09, 26 May 2013 (EDT)
  9. More enjoyable. Takava (talk) 19:21, 28 May 2013 (EDT)
  10. All-Star Mode dragged on a bit. God help it in SSB4. Toast Wii U Logo Transparent.pngltimatumTransparent Swadloon.png 19:28, 29 May 2013 (EDT)
  11. I enjoyed both modes, but classic lets you fight character of different forms. 173.79.214.38 13:05, 30 May 2013 (EDT)
  12. Because of the minigames. ChuckNorris24.png 15:19, 31 May 2013 (EDT)

Votes for All-Star Mode

  1. Why take on a few when you can take on all? JamesJH-Heartless.pngHeart 10:49, 25 May 2013 (EDT)
  2. All-star mode is more of a challenge and in Brawl you can do 2 player all-star mode. Baconlover9090 (talk) 12:16, 25 May 2013 (EDT)
  3. all star mode is better because you can face all the charachters and in brawl its 2P RoyalRapids (talk) 12:24, 25 May 2013 (EDT)
  4. Since you get to fight everyone. infernape612 12:45, 25 May 2013 (EDT)
  5. 198.53.20.219 16:28, 25 May 2013 (EDT)
  6. 75.31.4.16 21:11, 25 May 2013 (EDT)
  7. I enjoy both, but personally All-star mode is more of a challenge.71.51.149.217 13:08, 26 May 2013 (EDT)
  8. All Star is definetly the best way to gain experience Bulbaking (talk) 19:24, 28 May 2013 (EDT)

Comments

Two quick questions: 1. Is this specifically referring to Melee's modes? 2. If not, does "Classic Mode" also include SSB 64's 1P game? Mr. AnonAnon.pngtalk 12:36, 25 May 2013 (EDT)

1. Probably includes Brawl's as well. 2. Yeah. Awesome Cardinal 2000 13:15, 25 May 2013 (EDT)

I actually wasn't going to vote for a few weeks since I'm looking at Smash Arena probation, but since this is my suggestion... infernape612 12:46, 25 May 2013 (EDT)

  1. I think next we should do break the targets SSB vs Break the targets SSBM vs break the targets SSBB RoyalRapids (talk) 10:28, 26 May 2013 (EDT)
