SmashArena.png

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome, editors and users, to the Smash Arena! Each week this forum hosts a tussle between two characters, items, stages or anything else from the Super Smash Bros. series! The winner gets, well, nothing. It's more of a poll but functionally, this is a popularity contest. You may vote for your favorite or who you think would win in an competition between the two combatants that round. No, you don't have to vote for the character with strength & power, or the stage considered more "fair", or the combatant with the most fans - just vote if you are a total fanboy of the participant. So what are you waiting for? Get voting! Remember, you don't have to have an account to vote! Though new requests for fights can no longer be made, voting on already existing requests can be done here.

The Rules

  1. When voting, you can give a brief comment on why you voted the way you did, or you can just leave your signature. Long explanations for your vote are discouraged, as they are unnecessary (a vote is worth the same regardless of its reasoning), and they inflate the size of an already large page.
  2. You can vote only once. Any multiple votes will be removed.
  3. Put a # before your vote to facilitate the vote counting.
  4. Type ~~~~ after your vote to sign it, whether you are logged in or not. Using the wrong number of "~"s counts as not signing - your signature must have both your signature itself and the time.
  5. There is a line in each section consisting of "DO NOT ADD COMMENTS OR EDIT ANYTHING BELOW THIS LINE". You are to follow this rule; do not just type your vote at the bottom of the editing window. Not following this rule results in your vote being displayed in the wrong place.
  6. Put your vote below other votes; that is, so the votes are in chronological order.
  7. You may change or remove your vote at any time. To do this you must remove your old vote in its entirety; this is an exception to the "never remove comments" rule.
  8. You may vote only in the current fight; all previous fights are closed.
  9. Do not leave a space between your comment and the ones above it (and/or below it). Extra spacing results in the list numbers becoming disjointed.
  10. While previewing an edit of a single section, you will see loose formatting marks (such as a trailing |}). Do not alter or delete them; they are important to the page's construction and take effect only when the entire round is viewed.
  11. If there are multiple fights in a single round, try to make all your votes in a single edit.
  12. Any comments about the fight should be left in the comments section. The following kinds of comments are not allowed:
    • Comments relating to how close or one-sided a matchup is.
    • Comments about other users' opinions. You can point out that a user may have gotten a fact wrong, but you can't say things such as "That's not a good reason" or "But the other guy is better because X". Users can vote for any reason they want; trying to argue with someone's opinion generally has no positive outcome, in addition to simply inflating the comments section of an already large page.

If your vote is not added correctly - specifically, it breaks rules 3, 4, or 5 - you have a short amount of time to fix it (typically between fifteen minutes to an hour). After this time, it may be corrected and moved by any user to the Half-Votes section (adding the unsigned template if necessary), and it will count as half a vote. Your vote will also be considered a half-vote if your edit causes someone else's valid vote to break one of these rules. Attempting to move your vote out of the Half-Votes section may result in it being worth zero at an operator's discretion.

Multiple votes are not allowed; attempts to circumvent this with sockpuppets will result in your vote being discounted entirely, and is a blockable offense. Probated users who attempt to circumvent their probation with sockpuppets are also committing a blockable offense and will have their vote discounted. Remember that admins have access to CheckUser to check the IPs of any user, and will use it when sockpuppetry is suspected.

Intentional half-votes undermine the intent of the half-vote system as a way to punish voters for voting incorrectly. It is legal to want a vote to be worth half, but it is very heavily discouraged, and you must state in your vote you want it to be worth half. If you put your vote in the half-votes section without stating reasons why you want it there, it is worth zero and may be deleted by any user. You may replace it later should you do it correctly.

Above all, remember that voting in the Smash Arena is a privilege, not a right. In the vein of what SmashWiki is not, you are expected to at least attempt reasonable contributions to the wiki if you wish to retain your privilege to participate.

Round 189: Classic Mode vs. All-Star Mode

Winner!!

All Star Rest Area Melee.png
These two modes involve a gauntlet of battles, one a series of regular and unique fights with a boss at the end, the other a progression of slightly easier bouts with no healing available. Which variety of challenge is preferred?

Votes for Classic Mode

  1. How can I not pick this, it has the word "classic" in it! Terrible is May Flowers 10:22, 25 May 2013 (EDT)
  2. Dots MewtwoMS.png The Kamehameha 10:44, 25 May 2013 (EDT)
  3. I've always liked fighting Master Hand at the end. Besides, Classic mode is more easy-going. 67.166.229.4 11:26, 25 May 2013 (EDT)
  4. I like Classic in both Melee and Brawl and All-Star in Melee, but Brawl made All-Star boring as hell due to fighting everyone in the exact same order every time and nothing unique about the last fight. 84.92.35.200 12:07, 25 May 2013 (EDT)

Votes for All-Star Mode

Cloaking Device Trophy Melee.png
Your standard covert operations equipment - invisibility and surprise attacks. Has the defensive field or offensive explosive formed a stronger fan bond?

Votes for Motion-Sensor Bomb

  1. Don't you just love the Goldeneye 007 gameplay? Sure they also appear in Perfect Dark too but I think its funny to see those silly-looking soldiers die from explosions. Dots MewtwoMS.png The Pikachu 00:40, 18 May 2013 (EDT)
  2. When things go BOOM! 204.191.134.186 01:09, 18 May 2013 (EDT)
  3. The Proximity Mine has always been one of my favourite items. RickTommy 01:21, 18 May 2013 (EDT)
  4. No comment 84.92.35.200 05:07, 18 May 2013 (EDT)
  5. When playing Melee by yourself, cloaking devices only affect the player rather than the computers. Baconlover9090 (talk) 06:42, 18 May 2013 (EDT)
  6. Never used the Invisibility Cloak due to lack of Melee. BOOM!!! infernape612 10:15, 18 May 2013 (EDT)
  7. Probably one of the funnest items to use in Melee. Conny Airconny Snake Sig.png 10:18, 18 May 2013 (EDT)
  8. Go to 17:30. And the Cloaking device isn't very helpful IMO. Awesome Cardinal 2000 11:46, 18 May 2013 (EDT)

  10. LightningBlue405MS.png 14:56, 18 May 2013 (EDT)
  11. Yeh, the Cloaking Device isn't all that useful. The Motion-Sensor Bomb is far superior, what with being a moderately inconspicuous version of a Bob-omb. Except when you're playing on teams and you or your teammate accidentally step on (or get knocked into) your own Motion-Sensor Bomb, sometimes taking them down a stock, which really bites, but still. Hawk 21PSIWolf sig 1.pngTalk 18:09, 18 May 2013 (EDT)
  12. I have about 60% of Brawl's items turned on if I use any, this is one of them. The Cloaking Device didn't even come back. Toast Wii U Logo Transparent.pngltimatumTransparent Swadloon.png 19:12, 18 May 2013 (EDT)

  20. Cloaking Device helped CPUs a lot more than you, and the item just tended to be a nuisance, especially on the Showdown. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 12:12, 21 May 2013 (EDT)

Votes for Cloaking Device

  1. I do not really care for explosives. 67.166.229.4 21:38, 18 May 2013 (EDT)

Half-votes

  1. I can't believe I was hasty enough to vote for this by accident. Might as well keep it here, since this item needs more support.71.105.121.171 23:52, 17 May 2013 (EDT)
