Puff Up performed on Skyworld

Puff Up is Jigglypuff's Final Smash. Jigglypuff inflates to an extremely large size (the size of an entire small custom stage), then creates a "push" while it shouts its name. This "push" does no damage but has large horizontal knockback. Immediately, after this, Jigglypuff stops inflating, and so the elasticity causes it to become hard and rigid, yet insanely bouncy. Thus straight after the "push" and while it deflates, any character touching it will succumb to a "hit", doing 18% damage and twice the knockback of the push - almost always an OHKO. The attack loses potency on the large stages (i.e. Temple and New Pork) because it is very easy to simply run away and let Jigglypuff waste the attack. On Medium-sized stages, Jigglypuff can still KO players by trapping them near the edge and then Puffing Up.

  • Jigglypuff's size before using the final smash affects the size it grows to. In giant mode, it grows to a size where only its face is visible on screen.

Puff Up is a deadly move on a small stage. On stages such as as Shadow Moses Island with walls on either sides, 72% damage can be dealt, as 18% is taken each time an enemy collides with Jiggly, right until it is normal size again, and you can't control yourself while you're bouncing around!

However, avoiding this final smash is quite easy: cliffhanging and then dropping off just before the "hit", and then jumping back on, works well. To combat this, Puff users should either short hop before using the final smash, as this causes Puff's legs to dangle when it grows and so its legs can hit people cliffhanging.

However, for better success, on stages such as Battlefield, Final Destination, Pokemon Stadium and Pokemon Stadium 2, Use 2/3 jumps to get under the middle of the stage.... then see where the enemy can run.

Also, if you play as Fox/Falco/Wolf, if on a larger stage, Jigglypuff tries to trap you off on one side of the stage before using Puff Up, you can use your side special, and as long as the normal distance the attack would move you, would move you beyond the centre of Jigglypuff, you'll appear on the other side, and can run to freedom!

There is also a glitch in the game where the terrain is some stages (mainly Bridge of Eldin) touches Jigglypuff and knocks it out of the move yet it remains the same size it was when it was forced out of the Final Smash. Also, if Yoshi (or Kirby with Yoshi's ability) uses his Egg Lay on Jigglypuff after this, or Jigglypuff picks up a Super Mushroom its size doubles, allowing Jigglypuff to become the biggest character in the game. Its size resets when it uses the Final Smash again or dies.

As a pun on its enormous size and on Giga Bowser, this glitch Jigglypuff is often called "Gigalypuff" by fans.

Trophy Info

Jigglypuff's Final Smash. It wills its body to get bigger and bigger and bigger. It can't move, and it can't attack--all it can do is get bigger while everyone else looks on. However, it's invulnerable, and it overpowers all attacks to gradually push its opponents off the screen. It's a very simple technique, but how it's used determines its effectiveness.

Trivia

  • The Final Smash will hurt Jigglypuff's allies even if Friendly Fire is Off.
  • Puff Up is not an actual attack in the Pokemon games. (Though is certainly similar to Jigglypuff's Expand move on some Pokemon cards.)
  • On the Spear Pillar stage, on the top section, it is easy to avoid Puff Up, but is very effective on the bottom section in the middle, where it takes up the whole stage.
  • Do a short hop in the middle of Final Destination, and this move becomes an unavoidable One Hit KO move.
