Investigation is one of two main gameplay segments of the Ace Attorney series. When not in court, the player is tasked with going around the crime scene and other related areas to talk to witnesses, collect evidence, and generally build their case to prepare for the next court date. Phoenix's down special is mostly based on the "Examine" option during investigations, in which the player can click various areas around the screen to take a closer look at them, and sometimes find evidence that is then stashed in the Court Record for use in court.
