Axe is a [[projectile]] that travels in a high arc and pierces through opponents. It can be thrown in three different arcs depending on which direction is held during its startup. It is also able to travel through solid ground and pierce through fighters; however, it will stop if it is [[shield]]ed. The user's aerial momentum is stopped if he throws the axe in midair. It has high startup lag, with the axe's angle making it ineffective to use conventionally. However, it deals 15% damage and knockback while also going through solid terrain, giving it powerful edgeguarding capabilities and allowing it to kill at lower percentages. Its high freeze frames also give it very limited followup ability. Two axes can be in play at once; however, the first one usually vanishes right as the second one is thrown.

Overview

Axe is a projectile that travels in a high arc and pierces through opponents. It can be thrown in three different arcs depending on which direction is held during its startup. It is also able to travel through solid ground and pierce through fighters; however, it will stop if it is shielded.

It is also a Pac-Man's weakness.

Origin

Simon throwing the Axe in the original Castlevania.

The axe is a sub-weapon that appears throughout the Castlevania series. As with other sub-weapons, the use of axes requires hearts, which act as ammo. Both the axes themselves and the hearts required to use them are often found by breaking candles located across the map. The player is normally allowed to throw another axe after the first one is off the screen. Two or three axes are allowed in play if the player possesses a Double or Triple Shot, or in other games, has a significant amount of hearts. The ability to curve the axe is unique to Ultimate, however.
