On page 48 of my ''Melee'' instruction booklet, I noticed something odd. In the screenshot to the left of Kirby, I saw that the text said: "You've cleared 100-Man Melee for the first time!" Nothing odd about that, but the ''date'' next to it said "02.01.2024." But...the copyright text at the front of the booklet said 2001 Nintendo! I think that this is an original ''Melee'' instruction booklet from 2001, but I can't be sure about that as I bought my copy of Melee earlier this year, so I don't know for sure if the booklet is a reproduction or not. It probably isn't, but still...I have doubts. Surely the developers wouldn't have manipulated that one screenshot to make the date say 2024. I don't see how that would help anything. Does anyone else's ''Melee'' instruction booklet have this odd date? -- [[User:FanOfRosalina2007|FanOfRosalina2007]] ([[User talk:FanOfRosalina2007|talk]]) 15:38, August 6, 2024 (EDT) | On page 48 of my ''Melee'' instruction booklet, I noticed something odd. Why on earth is this question STILL longer than the article itself?
- major LOL. frankly, I don't know exactly what this article should cover, but it should certainly be more substantial than it is now! MaskedMarth 00:27, September 20, 2006 (GMT)
Wikipedia plagiarism
...umm, I don't think we're allowed to do that. Besides, the Melee article on SmashWiki should be geared towards a Smash audience, and thus should have different emphasis on different topics (perhaps more coverage of the competitive community, less coverage of Melee vis-à-vis other video games, references, etc.). I've deleted the Wikipedia content and am writing a paragraph or two to fill the blank. As I said before, I really don't know what belongs in such a broad topic, but I'm sure we can come up with something before ripping off Wikipedia. --MaskedMarth 04:04, October 2, 2006 (GMT)
Oh, and right now I have information that puts Melee in perspective with other fighting games (somebody more knowledgeable about that subject should carry on that task!), but I hope to later include more explanation about the evolution of Melee's community and perhaps its game modes.

Wikipedia plagiarism (part deux)
I just reverted Valoem's edit to the page, removing the Wikipedia content.
I didn't want to instigate an edit war, so I was hesitant to revert; however, I think the case for NOT copying from Wikipedia is strong enough to merit the revert. Here are my reasons why:
- It's plagiarism, even if it's from Wikipedia.
- None of the categories, links or templates works from Wikipedia to SmashWiki. It would be a total mess to fix, and considering how many times I've edited the Mewtwo article, doing little chores here and there and not even addressing the biggest problems in the article, I really don't want to deal with dewikifying the SSBM article and such.
- Almost all the information on the Wikipedia article would be categorized into articles of their own - for instance, each game mode should get an article of its own on SmashWiki, the Sonic and Tails hoax would get an article of its own, etc.
- The Wikipedia article is written for a non-gamer audience - SmashWiki articles are written for Smashers, which, even if they are casual, require that we write to a greater level of depth.
If there are any counterarguments I'll be happy to discuss them here. --MaskedMarth 17:42, October 30, 2006 (GMT)
Wikipedia is licenced under the GNU FDL and we're not, therefore it's copyright violation to copy text without permisson. lso, there's plenty of redlinks and not working templates. – Smiddle / talk 16:10, November 21, 2006 (GMT)
Your argument is valid however, I have personally edited the article on Wikipedia, also the article there is much more descriptive. However if you do not want to use it, I see no problem with that. Valoem 08:52, February 13, 2007 (GMT)

"Unused characters" source?
According to the article, these characters were supposed to be in Melee:
- Meta Knight (appeared as a trophy)
- Lucas
- Solid Snake
- Sonic the Hedgehog
But is there any source for this info? I find it highly doubtful that Solid Snake and Sonic, at least, were intended to be in Melee, and I find it somewhat impossible that Lucas was intended to, since Melee came out in 2001 and Mother 3 came out in 2006. That kind of throws the validity of the entire section into doubt.
- Solid Snake, absolutely, but it was too late in the process to add him. That I know for sure. - Gargomon251 10:52, February 25, 2008 (EST)
- Mother 3 was in development for N64 in 1996 but later moved to GBA. - Gargomon251 10:55, February 25, 2008 (EST)
Should we include were IGN or some other game magazine company joked that sonic and tails WERE in there and that you unlocked them by beating 20 enemies in cruel melee? Though ironically that was a CRUEL joke. Get it? - Julian"Fireheart"Gran 5:20, January 14, 2013 (EST)
- Please do not reply to comments that are years old, there is no point. Also, please read SW:TALK, this type of post is not really relevant to this article, and the information you were talking about is already covered on the Rumors page. 70.15.29.127 22:11, 14 January 2014 (EST)
wtf donkey kong
In the Melee opening movie, near the end, you can see DK getting hit by a ball of energy. Is that Mewtwo's Shadow Ball? If so, that makes Mewtwo the second unlcokable pokemon character to make a slight appearance in the beginning of the game, thus being a spoiler. Blue NinjakoopaTalk 02:50, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- It is purple, and looks much like the slight damage from a charging Shadow Ball. I've heard this theory before, but there's no proof. And by the way, Pichu and Jigglypuff are definitely both in the opening-- Jigglypuff's obvious, but Pichu's immediately to Pikachu's left (the screen's right) during the wall of Pokemon. Miles (talk) 03:42, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- What else is purple and looks like a slightly charged (fully, IMO) Shadow Ball? Blue NinjakoopaTalk 03:50, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- I feel like being anal right now, so... Aura Sphere. Anyhow, I think that logic isn't enough to prove that it's Shadow Ball. I think it is, but it isn't proof. Talk to Nintendo. :-/ Miles (talk) 03:54, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- Huh. I always thought it was Pikachu's thunder. It could be Samus's charge shot. Cheezperson {talk}stuff 03:58, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

ROFLcopter! Aura Sphere wasn't a move until 2007, Miles. It's Shadow Ball, and you know it. >:| Blue NinjakoopaTalk 04:05, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- I believe it to be Shadow Ball. I also believe we lack the proof to claim that officially in any article. Sorry :.| Miles (talk) 04:09, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Dark Link
Dark Link is something like a costume for link rather than a totally different character. It has the same moves and graphics (I mean movement, shape and attacks rather than colours), I highly doubt that melee programmers put dark link as a character and not as a custom for link and therefore waste memory . --NOT Zinnamon (talk) 20:07, October 10, 2009 (UTC)
- For that i believe you have to darken textures for the dark link.--Brandondorf 20:26, 27 September 2011 (EDT)
You know how, in team matches, when multiple members of the same team are the same character, the shading is different? Completely black is the shading that the 4th player has if all players are same team, same character (through name entry glitch). Therefore, Dark Link is a link purposely set to have this type of shading.Pokémonultimate Do a Barrel Roll! 22:45, 6 December 2011 (EST)
Modes
The Modes section is practically a copy of Mode. Should we replace the section with "Main article: Mode#Modes in Super Smash Bros. Melee" or vice versa? – SmiddleT 10:57, 7 July 2011 (EDT)

I found criticism on this game
1. The gameplay is way too fast! 2. CPUs are much harder to beat. 3. The CPUs make the new techniques easy to perform, but this is hard for us players. 4. It's way too similar to SSB64. 5. Some of the events are too hard. 6. Wavedashing and L-canceling are impossible to make a combo.
This is why I would consider Brawl(and 64) to be superior to Melee. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 068.174.210.87 (talk • contribs) 0:20, 22 April 2012 (EST)
- SW:TALK. None of this is appropriate usage of a talk page, and of course the second game in a trio has flaws. It had a sequel, didn't it? Toast ltimatum 19:23, 21 April 2012 (EDT)
Video
Hey, I noticed the Opening Video didn't let the announcer fully yell "Meleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" should I replace it with a new one?
- It isn't needed. That is just the ending leading to the title screen. LightningBlue: Cinco de Smash 23:45, 22 May 2012 (EDT)
Characters and Stages
I think the characters and stages section should look like Brawl and SSB4's, same thing applies for SSB64. It's a little plain, and I honestly don't know how to do it. Cherrim98Talk 20:47, 19 November 2013 (EST)

Differences between PAL and NTSC
In the article, there's no information about the differences between the PAL and NTSC version of the game. Can someone add this? Mariofan13 (talk) 18:48, 8 March 2015 (EDT)
- We have a full article for that at List of regional version differences (SSBM), so it'd be better to instead find a place to link there. Toomai Glittershine The Spectrum 22:50, 8 March 2015 (EDT)
Melee Character Consideration analysis
Is any of the information in this: https://sourcegaming.wordpress.com/2015/04/13/the-definitive-unused-fighters-list-in-smash/ Worth adding to the beta elements page?
Melee is the worst smash game.
disclamer: Melee is still a good game but not as AMAZING!!! as other fans say.
- 1 the solo player part is lacking
- 2 the character selection is unbalanced
- 3 the skilled players use overpowered fighters like Marth and Fox.
- 4 the fans take advantage of the game's flaws like how the character selection is unbalanced.
that's only facts not my opinion. [user: Goob12] 10:39 am 2019 November 28

Latest Information on Melee's Development
Since discussions like this one were never resolved or corrected, it makes me wonder what other information we can use to improve this article. For example, we know that the opening movie did include Mewtwo's Shadow Ball, and we do have the proof to confirm it via a post in late 2001 or early 2002 by Sakurai himself via responding to a fan's question on Smabura-Ken's questionnaire. Does it make more sense to include more detailed information on development on this page or the Unused content page? davidvkimball 16:28, March 11, 2022 (EST)
- Probably on the unused content page, if we're talking about development stuff. Also, I think that the thing hitting Donkey Kong was Samus' fully charged Charge Shot, for the record. -- FanOfRosalina2007 (talk) 15:31, August 6, 2024 (EDT)
