| *In 1993, Koichi Nakamura's mdfw series of roguelike games was created. It started with a title based on mdfw from Dragon Quest IV, then later in 2006 with mdfw from Dragon Quest VIII as a child. It was eventually spun off into its own franchise with an original subseries titled mdfw in 1995, and also began to cross over with both popular and smaller series: Squaresoft's Final Fantasy (as mdfw) in 1997; Bandai's wikipedia (as mdfw), Namco's Babylonian Castle Saga (as mdfw), and Konami's wikipedia (as mdfw) in 2004; Game Freak's Pokémon (as mdfw) in 2005; and Atlus's wikipedia (as mdfw) in 2015.
